O'Fallon Streets Now Have Names

The City Council approves names for some new streets in subdivision and Westhoff Park.

Some streets now have names in O’Fallon.

The O’Fallon City Council approved a bill on Nov. 17 establishing new names for three new segments of street.

They’re getting new names because city staff says the streets either have a confusing name or no name at all.

Having a street name is vital for emergency responders. Part of the procedure for naming streets involves submitting the names to the St. Charles County Department of Dispatch and Alarm for consideration.

This department, responsible for dispatching emergency services in St. Charles County, has to agree to the assignment of street names and addresses.

City officials say the county has provided letters supporting our changes as attached for the ordinance.

The streets with new names are:

  • Change Country Field Drive to Grace Hill Drive within the Preston Woods Subdivision.  Both the Countryshire and Preston Woods subdivisions in the city have streets named “Country Field Drive” that are within about a thousand feet of each other.  One street has three digit addresses and the other has four digit addresses.  This also is confusing to emergency responders.  Grace Hill Drive in the subdivision is still being developed – only two homes are along the street.  Homeowners will be notified by letter by the city.
  • Naming a connector loop road Sonderen Loop N.  Currently Sonderen connects to East Terra Lane via a loop-style connector road that now doesn’t have a name. No properties have an address along this road now so residents will not be affected, city officials say. City staff will need to change the two mast arm signs at each signalized intersection with the proposed changed name.
  • Naming of Cool Springs Industrial Drive. Recent construction within Westhoff Park has provided a connection from the intersection of T.R. Hughes Boulevard and Cool Springs Industrial Drive to the road within the park that is called Sheppard Drive.  The city recommended assigning the Cool Springs Industrial Drive name to this new construction as well. A few street signs within the park to clearly identify the appropriate street names will be needed upon approval. The traffic signal mast arm signs are already labeled properly, so those can remain in place until they need to be replaced with the other signs. No business or residence is along the drive so no one will be affected by the change.

With the council’s approval, the city will notify emergency services, St. Charles County government officials, and the U.S. Postal Service about the approved names and ordinance.
