Open House Scheduled on One-Way I-70 Outer Roads Change

Residents can head to St. Peters on Sept. 18 to learn more about a plan to improve access to Interstate 70 by converting the outer roads between Cave Springs Road and Mid Rivers Mall into one-way outer roads with slip ramps. 

The open house will be from 4 to p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Peters .

The proposed I-70 Access Improvements Project improvements include:

• Reconfiguring the Cave Springs Road interchange 
• Converting the outer roads between the Cave Springs Road and Mid Rivers Mall Drive interchanges to one-way outer roads with slip ramps. 
• An extension of the north outer road from Mid Rivers Mall Drive to Route 79 will be studied. 

The plans will also look at corridor enhancements like bicycle and pedestrian facilities, wayfinding and signage, and aesthetics.

With increased traffic, especially on I-70 and at its interchanges, St. Peters staff says that must look for ways to manage traffic efficiently and protect the safety and interests of everyone. 

“We recognize that access is a key issue along the corridor,” said Russ Batzel, manager of the Transportation and Development Services Group in a press release. “We are looking at changes that will improve traffic flow and distribution and encourage more use of the outer roads.”

St. Peters' officials will be seeking input throughout the project. The September meeting is one of the first chances for residents to offer critiques and comments. 

The planning phase is scheduled to conclude by Spring 2013, at which time the project will advance to the design phase. Construction could begin as early as 2014.
