Proposals for Justice Center, Civic Park, O'Day Park Total $53.4 Million

Each of the firms presented a report on their design during the City Council work session Thursday night.

Proposals from the design firms for a new O'Fallon Justice Center, improvements to Civic Park and the development of O'Day Park total more than $53 million, city leaders learned at a work session Thursday night.

The O'Fallon City Council heard reports from:

  • James Estes of Wilson Estes Police Architects about the design for a new city justice center, proposed cost, $27.6 million.
  • Mike Pratl of Jacobs Engineering for the Civic Hall replacement and an expansion of Alligator's Creek, proposed cost, $11 million
  • Carrie Coyne of SWT Design for the development of O'Day Park and construction of a lodge, proposed cost, $14.8 million
Residents are already asking the Council to take a hard look at the proposals.

During the public comment period at the regular council meeting that followed the work session, resident Laurie Stephens asked the council members to "think outside the box" and not simply build another fitness center at Civic Park.

The city should do "something unique," Stephens suggested. "Something that could help support our heritage as a city."

Patch will be looking at each of the proposals in depth in future stories
