New Car, New Camera

A dashboard webcam can be your friend in an accident.

I recently purchased a new car.  Unfortunately, I also got a speeding ticket.  So now I set the cruise control at the exact speed limit and just focus on not getting run over.  Oh how naive I am.

It's odd how dangerous it gets on the roads when I'm following the speed limit.  People are whizzing past me, giving me the finger, cussing, glaring, riding my bumper and one person acually tried to smash into me on purpose.  He had a crappy old pick-up and could care less if anyone got hurt.  Maybe he was tired of working for a living and wanted to live off the insurance money when he claimed a neck injury.  Time to call Brown and Croupen.

So, I purchased a dashboard webcam and it records everything in HD.  Today was the first day using it and I showed it to my family after work.  They were completely amazed at how dangerous drivers are these days.

At the bridge in St. Charles, the speed limit drops dramatically but people just blast right through the narrow three lanes as they head towards the airport.

A car directly in front of me tried to change lanes, with no blinker and almost hit another car.

I'm glad no one was hurt but I would have had the video evidence for the police.  These cameras are very inexpensive on Ebay.  Maybe because they were assembled by a four year old in China.

At any rate, I think it would be good for everyone to consider having one just in case you do wind-up in an accident.  You'll have the proof that it wasn't your fault.

I think cars having black boxes like airplanes have would be a good incentive to drive well.  It would record your speed, if you were using your blinkers, etc...and could be used as evidence for the insurance company or police that you were driving safely if there were to be an accident.
