SCC Student Veteran Organization to host Military Family and Community Expo April 3

To provide resources and support to local veterans, St. Charles Community College's SVO will host its first Military Family and Community Expo 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3.

To provide resources and support to local veterans, St. Charles Community College’s Student Veteran Organization will host its first Military Family and Community Expo 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the auditorium of the Social Sciences Building. The event is free and open to the public.

The expo will feature organizations and entities that provide support services, healthcare, recreational activities and awareness.

There will be booths and activities for the entire family. More than 35 booths will be available including Wounded Warrior Project, Six String Heroes, The Mission Continues, St. Louis Veterans Curation Program, Team River Runner, Missouri Monsters and U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Health Care. This is a day for all veterans, active duty military, family, friends and supporters to learn about the military organizations and resources in our community.

“This event has been created specifically for the entire military family, not just the warrior, as transition and success includes the entire family,” said Angela Peacock, president of SCC’s Student Veteran Organization.

There will be free cotton candy, face painting and a balloon clown for children. Barbecue from Warrior BBQ and snacks will be available for purchase 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

“The organizations that will be at SCC for this event are hand-picked,” said Peacock. “Join us as we welcome these organizations and provide veterans from all eras access to some of the best resources available in the St. Charles County area.”

SCC’s Student Veteran Organization began meeting in August 2012. In its first year, the organization already has more than 50 active members.
