SCC to show the film ‘Reefer Madness – The Musical’ April 20

St. Charles Community College's Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) will show the film "Reefer Madness – The Musical" at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20.

St. Charles Community College’s Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) will show the film “Reefer Madness – The Musical” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in the auditorium of the Social Sciences Building.

SSDP is showing the film to promote awareness of the discussion of marijuana legalization. The 2005 film parodies the sensationalism surrounding marijuana. The film is a fictionalization of a highly exaggerated perspective on the use of marijuana.

“SSDP picked this film because it is a fun way to end the semester as well as fulfill the club’s mission,” said Paul Roesler, SSDP club advisor and SCC political science professor.

The mission of SSDP is “to promote awareness of the true impact of the war on drugs and to encourage public discussion of marijuana legalization.” The club aims to create a fairer, alternative public discourse at SCC and in the local area on issues pertaining to cannabis and hemp policy in the local, state and national political arena, Roesler said.

St. Charles Community College is a public, comprehensive two-year community college with associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.
