‘Where’d You Go to High School’ 5K run and 1-mile walk to raise funds for education programs in St. Charles County

The St. Charles County Alliance for Business, Learning and Education (ABLE), a partnership between local businesses, education organizations and St. Charles Community College, will host its inaugural “Where’d You Go to High School” 5K run and 1-mile walk on Saturday, Nov. 9, starting at 8 a.m. on SCC’s green parking lot.

The group representing a single school or school district with the most participants will receive a cash award for their school or district. Proceeds from the event will support education programs in St. Charles County through the ABLE Mini-Grants for Schools Program.

“The event allows community members to show their school spirit and raise funds for their school at the same time,” said Tammie De Los Santos, ABLE program director and SCC manager of workforce development initiatives. “The theme, ‘where’d you go to high school,’ is a fun way to bring awareness to the schools we are trying to support.”

All participants will receive a free T-shirt. The age groups for 5K competitors are 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-plus. First place awards will be given to the top male and female finisher in each age group and to overall winners.

Registration fees through Oct. 18 are $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1-mile walk. After Oct. 18, registration fees are $30 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-mile walk. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. T-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed after Oct. 18.

Packet pick up will be held from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, at Fleet Feet, 3813 Mexico Road, St. Charles, Mo., 63303.

Sponsors include American Eagle Credit Union, the Greater St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce,  Partners for Progress of Greater St. Charles, Sams Carpet Cleaning and Repairs and West Community Credit Union. Fleet Feet will provide online registration, packet pick-up and timing of the race.

The purpose of the ABLE Mini-Grants for Schools Program is to provide funds and support to teachers in participating school districts for school enrichment programs that focus on career development, career exploration and career readiness skills.

St. Charles County ABLE was created in collaboration with local business leaders and participating school district personnel to foster workforce readiness and educational programs for kindergarten through 12th grade students in the community.
