O'Fallon Swimmer Wins NCAA Division One National Championship

Haley Spencer lead the University of Minnesota to a school-record ninth-place finish in the team standings on Saturday.

O'Fallon resident and University of Minnesota sophomore won the NCAA Division One National championship in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday night at the University of Texas.    

Spencer, a graduate of , rallied from fourth place over the final 50 yards to finish first with a personal-best time of 2:06.12 seconds. She reeled off a clocking 32.30 down the stretch to edge Texas A-M's Breeja Larson by .006.    

"In the last 10 yards, I did what I always do," said Spencer. "I stuck my head down and went for it."   Spencer helped the Golden Gophers to a school-record ninth-place finish in the team standings.
