Update: Snow Days Extend Fort Zumwalt School Year

The school district now has seven snow days to add to the 2010-2011 school year.

After a winter full of snowy weather canceling classes, will now make up seven days of school at the end of the year.

According to Laura Musket, public relations director for the district, Fort Zumwalt does not build snow days into the school year calendar like some other districts in the state.

Musket said the Fort Zumwalt will not reschedule class for holidays or staff development days, but instead the seven snow days will mean an extended 2010-11 calendar for the district. The last day of class for middle school and elementary school students has been moved from May 25 to June 6. The last day for high school students is now June 7 instead of May 26.

When forecasts call for inclement weather, Fort Zumwalt School officials begin monitoring the roads right away. Director of Transportation Tom Berry and Superintendent Dr. Bernard DuBray both drive the streets of O'Fallon and St. Peters to test the conditions before .
