Baseball: Well-Rounded Barat Overwhelms MRH

An all-around more consistent performance by Barat overwhelmed on Monday in a five-inning, 15-2 win for the Eagles at home.

(9-3) senior pitcher Cody Heying was perfect through two innings, including four strikeouts. He walked just one batter in his four innings.

“They gave us a few breaks with walks early in the game, and then we just had some timely hits. I think in the first inning, though, we scored four runs, and think we only had two hits off of that, so they gave us a little bit," Barat coach Jason Theodorakos said.

Freshman Trey Allison took the mound in the fifth to shut the door on the Blue Devils.

"They performed better than we did in all three phases, pitching, hitting and defense," MRH (1-6) coach Jonathan Webb said. "I talked to the guys about how this is a team that really goes about everything the right way."

MRH left-handed pitcher Zach Joyce had three strikeouts, and had the Eagles off-balance at times, but hurt himself by walking the first two batters he faced. Senior Jake Campbell followed the two walks by singling to drive both runners home.

A potential third-inning MRH rally included a Montel Maggitt single and a base hit from senior Charles Boclair, but neither player scored.

The Eagles batted through their lineup in the first, third and fourth innings.

"We had flashes of things," Webb said, "but the key to being successful in baseball is being consistent, and we just weren't consistent at all today."

"That's a good ball club though," Theodorakos said. "You can see in their lineup that they got some good guys, and that pitcher, he kept us off balance. We never really got the bat on the ball."

He was more generous with his own pitchers, though. "They did a good job. Cody filled it up. I don't think he had any walks (he had one), and then Trey came in and shut the door there. It was good on the mound for us."
