Olympic Dreams: O'Fallon Resident Makes First Cut for Women's Hockey Team

Jincy Dunne, 16, is one step closer to the 2014 Winter Olympics after making the 25-player national team roster.

O'Fallon native Jincy Dunne is one step closer to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Dunne, 16, found out earlier this week she made the cut for the U.S. Women's National Team. Dunne, who just turned 16 in May, was by far the youngest player to make the 41-woman roster for the original tryouts. When it came time to trim down the roster to 25, Dunne made the cut.

The next step for Dunne to become one of the youngest Olympic hockey players is to survive one more round of cuts. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the team will be cut down to 21 players in December. If she makes that cut, Dunne who just finished her sophomore year at The Fulton School at St. Albans, will head to Russia.

Dunne, the daughter of Tom and Tammy Dunne, will get her chance to make an impression when she heads to Boston in late August to work out with the squad.

The 16-year-old is unique on the roster not just because of her age. On a roster filled with players from traditional hockey hotbeds of Minnesota and Massachusetts  Dunne is the lone player representing the Show-Me State.

According to an ESPNW article, Dune plays with the high school boys' team at Westminster, the St. Louis Lady Blues and the U.S. U-18 team. In 2012 she played with the St. Louis AAA boys' hockey team that went to the national championship game.
