Phillies Choose O'Fallon Native, Zumwalt West Grad Asche

Cody Asche, a third baseman at the University of Nebraska, is selected by Philadelphia with the 151st overall pick.

Cody Asche, a 2008 graduate of Fort Zumwalt West, was selected in the fourth round by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.

Asche, a third baseman, recently completed his junior year at the University of Nebraska. He led the Big 12 conference with 12 home runs and was second with 56 RBI while batting .327. The O'Fallon native was a second-team All-America selection.

Asche, the 151st overall choice, hit .425 in his career at Zumwalt West, including .512 in his senior season as a second baseman.

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 198-pounder was selected higher than any Nebraska baseball player since current Kansas City Royals player Alex Gordon was chosen second overall in 2005.

Asche has batted .312 and amassed 24 home runs and 135 RBI in his career in Lincoln.

The Phillies won the World Series in 2009 and advanced to the National League Championship Series in 2010. They are currently in first place in NL East division.
