Playoffs: District Football Playoffs Continue Wednesday Night

St. Dominic will face Helias in the second round of the District playoffs.

Ten weeks of the season have gone by, and now the field has been narrowed.

Week 10 eliminated half the teams from State title contention. Now Round 2 of the District playoffs continue.

St. Dominic at Helias 

  • When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31
  • Where: Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City
  • How'd they get here: St. Dominic beat Warrenton 35-8; Helias topped Kirksville 54-7

The second round of the Class 4, District 6 tournament features a game featuring the Crusaders against the Crusaders. 

Helias, despite a 6-4 record, is the second seed and the home team against 9-1 St. Dominic. While St. Dominic plays against smaller schools in conference play, Helias, an independent, usually plays a tougher schedule.

St. Dominic has been potent offensively this year, scoring an average of 33.1 points per contest. Helias, however, has been just as good scoring 33.3 per game in 2012. 

Christian High School vs. McCluer South

  • When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31
  • Where: Christian
  • How'd they get here: Christian shutdown Wright City 27-0; McCluer South pounded Trinity 86-6

A long winning streak will be snapped Wednesday night in the Class 3, District 5 tournament. Christian, 9-1, has won four straight. They will take on a McCluer South, 7-3, team that has won six in a row.

Christian has scored a staggering 358 points in 2012 and has scored at least 26 points in all but one game this years. 

McCluer South also has a big-time offense. Last week the Bulldogs pounded Trinity and scored 86 points. Two weeks prior, the Bulldogs scored 64 against Confluence Prep. For the season, McCluer South has scored 353 points. 

Fort Zumwalt South at Parkway Central

  • When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31
  • Where: Parkway Central
  • How'd they get here: Zumwalt South beat Zumwalt North 22-21 in overtime; Parkway Central had a bye 

What will Zumwalt South do for an encore? In the first playoff round, and without injured star Chase Abbington, the Bulldogs knocked off Zumwalt North with a two-point conversion in overtime. In Round 2 of the Class 5, District 3 playoffs, the Bulldogs will take on the rested team from Parkway Central. Thanks to an 8-1 regular season record, Parkway Central picked up a first-round bye. 

Duchesne vs. Orchard Farm

  • When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31
  • Where: Duchesne
  • How'd they get here: Duchese knocked off Sumner 48-8; Orchard Farm beat Winfield 41-6

After two blowouts in the opening round of the Class 3, District 5 tournament, two St. Charles-area schools will be facing off in Round 2. Duchesne, after beating Sumner 48-8, enters the game with a 6-4 record. The Pioneers have scored 255 points this year and have only given up 112 points. 

Orchard Farm, is 7-3 on the year after its beat down of Winfield in Week 10. The Eagles have scored 294 points in 10 game this year, and like the Pioneers have been stingy on defense. Orchard Farm has given up just 128 points and had a shutout streak of three straight games earlier this season.

St. Charles West vs. University City

  • When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31
  • Where: Steve Stahl Stadium in St. Charles
  • How'd they get here: St. Charles West beat MICDS 33-28; University City beat Normandy 28-24

St. Charles West, the top seed in the Class 4, District 5 tournament, escaped with a win against MICDS last week. This week the Warriors, 7-3, will stay home to host University City. When the Warriors have been good, they have relied on offense to get the job done. West has scored at least 40 points four times this year, all wins. In fact, when West has scored more than 10 points this season is has won. 

University City, 5-5, made it into the second round despite having a porous defense. In 10 games, the Lions gave up an average of 34.1 points per contest. Despite that, the Lions still managed to win five times by scoring an average of 24.4 fans a game this season. 

Holt vs. Parkway North

  • When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31
  • Where: Holt
  • How they got here: Holt beat Parkway West 40-0; Parkway North took down Zumwalt East 42-25.

Holt is looking to take down another Parkway team in the Class 5, District 3 tourney. A week after downing West, Holt takes on North on Wednesday. 

The Indians, 7-3, are riding a five-game win streak into Wednesday's game. Holt has had success behind a stingy defense that has given up 16.4 per game and offense that has put up enough points to win. 

Parkway North, 5-5, has the stats of a .500 team. The offense has score 22.9 points per game in 2012, while the defense has given up 21.3 points per game.
