Sports Report: Girls Swimming Season Starts Up While Wrestling, Basketball Continue On

Basketball and wrestling have already started play and this week girls swimming and diving teams across St. Charles County will hit the pool for the first time. Swimming action, however, isn't all that's going to go on this week. Week 3 is filled with games as good teams try to build on early-season success while losing teams hope to reverse fortunes.

Here are some games to watch this week around St. Charles County. 

• Who: (Wrestling) North at Fort Zumwalt West quad
• When/Where: 5 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Zumwalt West
• Why the big deal?: All four Zumwalt schools will gather at Zumwalt West for a four-way wrestling match. The winner of the quad will get Zumwalt district bragging rights. 

• Who: (Girls swimming) Zumwalt West vs. Timberland and Parkway South
• When/Where: 4 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Parkway South
• Why the big deal?: Coming off a sixth place finish at State last season, the West Jaguars return to the pool for the first time in the 2011-12 season. West will face off with Parkway South and Timberland in a season-opening triangular.  

• Who: (Girls swimming) Fort Zumwalt South vs. Holt
• When/Where: 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the 
• Why the big deal?: Fort Zumwalt South will kick off the swimming season with a home duel against Holt.  

• Who: (Boys basketball) Zumwalt East vs. Parkway Central
• When/Where: 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Parkway Central
• Why the big deal?: The East boys have started the season on a 3-1 clip and look to keep going with just one game this week. The Lions will the hit the road to take on Parkway Central. 

• Who: (Boys basketball) St. Dominic vs. Elsberry
• When/Where: 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Troy Buchanan
• Why the big deal?: The Crusaders will hit the road for some tournament action. St. Dominic will take on Elsberry in the opener of the Troy Tournament. 

• Who: (Girls basketball) Christian vs. North Tech
• When/Where: 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 at North Tech
• Why the big deal?: The Christian girls finally take the floor for the 2011-12 season. The Eagles will take on North Tech in the road opener. 

• Who: (Girls basketball) Lutheran vs. Rosati-Kain
• When/Where: 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Lutheran
• Why the big deal?: The 2-1 Lady Cougars are coming off a close loss to Francis Howell Central in the Little Caesars Tournament. Lutheran will stay at home for an AAA conference tilt with Rosati-Kain.

Francis Howell Central

• Who: (Girls basketball) Francis Howell Central vs. Hazelwood Central
• When/Where: 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Hazelwood Central
• Why the big deal?: Howell Central has opened the season on a 3-0 tear and has outscored the oppositions 169-54. The Spartans will attempt to keep things rolling against Hazelwood Central on Friday. 

• Who: Francis Howell North vs. Lutheran North
• When/Where: 8 p.m. on Dec. 6 at St. Charles West
• Why the big deal?: The Francis Howell North boys are will be seeking their first win of the season at the St. Charles West Warriors Classic. The Knights will open the tourney with a tilt against Lutheran North. 

• Who: (Girls swimming) Duchesne vs. Incarnate Word Academy
• When/Where: 4 p.m. on Jan. 5 at UMSL
• Why the big deal?: Duchesne's swim team will start the season with a road match against Incarnate Word. 

Orchard Farm

• Who: (Girls basketball) Orchard Farm vs. Wright City
• When/Where: 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Wright City
• Why the big deal?: The 2-1 Eagles are riding a two-game winning streak. Orchard Farm will try and keep things going with a road game against Wright City.

• Who: (Girls basketball) St. Charles vs. Francis Howell North
• When/Where: 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Francis Howell North
• Why the big deal?: The Pirates get the GAC North season rolling with a tilt against Francis Howell North. St. Charles is already 4-0 on the young season. 

• Who: (Boys basketball) St. Charles West vs. Kirkwood
• When/Where: 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 at St. Charles West
• Why the big deal?: St. Charles West kicks off the St. Charles West Warrior Classic with a game against Kirkwood. The Warriors are 1-2 on the young season.

• Who: (Boys basketball) Timberland vs. Fort Zumwalt North
• When/Where: 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Timberland
• Why the big deal?: For the first time this season the Timberland Wolves will have a home game. The 2-1 Wolves will open up the home season with a game Zumwalt North.

• Who: (Girls basketball) Holt vs. Fort Zumwalt East
• When/Where: 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 at Holt
• Why the big deal?: Holt will kick off the home portion of the schedule this season against Fort Zumwalt East. The Indians are 1-2 on the season while the Lions are 0-1.
