Zumwalt South Girls Down Francis Howell

Bulldogs claw their way back for the victory.

The Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs overcame a slow start Thursday night to pick up a 48-37 victory over the Francis Howell Lady Vikings.

The host Vikings jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter. However, Zumwalt South began to use a full court press in the 2nd quarter, and it paid off as the Lady Bulldogs outscored Howell 14-10 in the 2nd quarter. Nonetheless, the Lady Vikings still had a comfortable 32-20, halftime lead. 

The third quarter proved to be pivotal as the Bulldogs continued to use their high-pressure defense and outscored the Vikings 17-2, and South led it 37-34 going into the fourth. In the fourth, South outscored Howell 11-3. Fort Zumwalt held Francis Howell to just five points in the second half.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Danielle McLean’s 11 points and Maddy German’s 10.

The victory improved Ft. Zumwalt South’s record to 4 and 2, while Francis Howell dropped to 2 and 3.

Zumwalt South’s next game comes Tuesday night when they host Francis Howell North. 

Meanwhile, the Vikings look to rebound next Friday when they host Howell Central at 5:30 p.m. That will be followed by the boys’ varsity teams squaring off at 7 p.m. Both of those contests can be heard live on the Westplex Sports Network —www.westplexsports.net. The pregame show is scheduled to start at 5:15.
