Fort Zumwalt North Sports: Week in Review

See how Fort Zumwalt North Panthers did this week and mark your calendars for upcoming sporting events.

Varsity Football - The football team opened their season with a 14 - 6 victory over the St. Charles West Warriors. Defense led the way by holding the Warriors to just one score.

Killian Sneed returned an interception into the endzone for the Panthers first touchdown of the 2012 season.

Zach Hilliard connected with Colin Mueller for a touchdown reception, for the Panther's second touchdown. Chris Millich, Jeremy Davidson, and Quincy Moore were the team's leading tacklers. The team returns to action this Friday night at Mehlville - 7 p.m.

Varsity Softball- The team finished the week with a record of four wins against only one loss. Playing in the Holt Tournament the Panthers recorded victories over O'Fallon Christian (6 - 3), St. Dominic (4 -3), St. Charles West (11 - 0), and Visitation (6 - 4).

The team suffered their only loss to Holt High School, who rallied past the Panthers by a 6 - 4 margin. Offensive standout during the tournament for the Panthers were Abby Hlavaty, Andrea Gowen, Lauren King, and Abby Tillotson.

This week the team plays at Francis Howell (8/28) and Holt (8/29) before hosting intra-district rival Fort Zumwalt East (8/31)

Varsity Soccer - The varsity soccer team kicked off the 2012 season at Fort Zumwalt South last Friday. South won the game by a slim 1 - 0 margin. Goalie, Jack Filla, was credited with 21 saves during he game!

This week, the Panthers host the 2012 FZN Soccer Tournament to be played 8/27 - 8/31. The Panthers will play Warrenton in their first round game (8/27) at 4:30 pm.

Varsity Girls Golf - The girls golf team lost their first contest of the season to Fort Zumwalt West. Although the girls lost they showed tremendous improvement in their over-all scores. The team improved an incredible 39 strokes over their performance last season on the the same golf course (The Falls).

The team hosts Francis Howell Central at Mid-Rivers Golf Club on 8/28, then travels to play Francis Howell on 8/29.

Varsity Boys Swimming - The Varsity Boys scored a victory over Francis Howell North by a narrow margin defeating the Knights by a 69 - 66 score. The swim team hosts Pattonville at the Rec-Plex on 8/30 - 3 p.m., then competes in the McCluer North Relays on Friday.
