Fort Zumwalt North Winter Sports Update

Activities Director Ted Hickey shares what's going on in Fort Zumwalt North sports.

Boys Basketball: The boys basketball team currently sports an outstanding 15 - 5 overall record. This includes a 5 - 0 mark in conference play.

The boys have been led all season long by Chaz Glotta, who is currently second in the St. Louis area in scoring average with 25 points per game. The Panther offense has also been sparked by Zach Glotta (11.7 ppg) and Kris McCann (10.6 ppg). Aaron Hauser leads the team in rebounds, averaging 8.4 rebounds per game.

The boys team is currently listed as one of the teams "on the bubble" by the St. Louis Post Dispatch. On Feb. 19 the senior players will be honored before their final home game of the season against defending state champion, McCluer North. District play begins Feb. 25.

Girls Basketball: With the season nearing its end, the FZN girls are playing their best basketball of the season. Currently the team is riding a season high four game winning streak, that included wins over conference rivals Fort Zumwalt South and Fort Zumwalt East!

The team's 4 - 1 record in conference play put them in a tie for first place in the GAC Central. All season long the team has been led by senior stand-out Shelby Bateman, who averages 14.3 points per game. The team will play their final home game on Feb. 12 vs. Ritenour - 5 p.m.

The team's four seniors will be honored prior to the game. District play begins Feb. 25.

Wrestling: The wrestling team finished the dual season with an overall record of 10 - 5. This marks the 13th consecutive winning season for the Panthers.

The team has been led by a pair of highly ranked wrestlers including, freshmen Shaun Beeman (106) who is currently ranked 5th in the state and holds a 33 - 3 record and senior Ryan Thomas (170) who is currently ranked 2nd in the state and holds a 40 - 3 season record.

Other standouts include: Eric Byers (126) 20 - 8, Austin Graeler (132) 21 - 10, Justin Manzella (152) 22 - 9, and Trenton Jaco (120) 20 - 11.

The wrestlers will compete this weekend, Feb. 8 - 9 at the disrict meet and the top four finishers at each weight class advance to the State Championships.

Girls Swimming: The girls swimmers have completed their regular season. Freshmen diver Taylor Duckett will compete in the state championships held at the St. Peters Rec-Plx on Saturday, Feb. 16th.
