Fort Zumwalt North Winter Sports Update

See how your local teams are doing in wrestling, basketball and swimming.

Wrestling

The Varsity Wrestling team is off to a hot start as they have recorded a victory in each contest this season. The team has dual meet victories over Rockwood Summit, Parkway West, and Fort Zumwalt South.  In addition the team won first place in the gold pool of the FZN Invitational.  The Panthers have two individuals, Sean Beeman (106) and Justin Manzella (152), who have yet to be beaten on the season.  Both wrestlers sport identical 8 - 0 records.  Trenton Jaco (120), Eric Byers (126), Quinton Moore (160), and Ryan Thomas (182) are all 7 - 1 so far this season. This weekend the grapplers will compete in the Fort Zumwalt East Christmas Tournament.

Varsity Boys Basketball

Not to be out done by the wrestling team, the basketball team is also rolling early this season.  The boys currently have a perfect record of 4 - 0!  The team captured the title at the Winfield Tournament.  The Panthers have been led by the standout play of Chaz Glotta, who is averaging 33.8 points per game!  Chaz was named the tournament M.V.P. at Winfield.  The Panthers have also got stellar play from Zach Glotta (10 ppg), Kris McCann (10 ppg), and Aaron Hauser (6 rbs pg).  This Friday the team competes in the GAC/Suburban Shoot-Out against highly regarded Marquette.  The game will be played at the St. Charles Family Arena and has a 7:00pm scheduled start.  Saturday the boys will play in the "Mid-West Showdown Shootout" against Riverview Gardens.  The game will be played at Lindenwood University and has a scheduled start time of 10:00 am.

Varsity Girls Basketball

The girls recorded their first win of the season (12/10) against Orchard Farm, winning by a score of 55 - 46.  The team now has an early season record of 1 - 3. Senior Shelby Bateman is averaging 17 ppg!  This week the team competes in the FZN Invitational.

Girls Swimming

The girls won their first meet of the season as they narrowly defeated Timberland. The win was a first for new head coach, Jamie Palmer.  Freshmen diver, Taylor Duckett, scored high enough to qualify for the MSHSSA State Swimming and Diving Championships!  She is the first diver to qualify fo FZN since 1999.  The Swim Cats are in action this Friday as they host the FZN "Panther" Relays at the Rec-Plex in St. Peters.
