Fort Zumwalt North Winter Sports Update

Zumwalt North Activities Director Ted Hickey shares what's going on with local athletes.

Boys Basketball

The FZN Boys Basketball team has turned in a stellar season so far. The boys sport a 9-3 record overall record. Recently the team finished 3rd in the rugged CBC tournament! The team has been led by Junior - Chaz Glotta, who is averaging 25.8 points per game. Other major contributors include, Sophomore - Kris McCann (11.9 ppg. avg.) and Aaron Hauser (6.6 rbs. pg.). The team hosts GAC rival Washington on 1/15/13, before playing host to the annual FZN Invitational which begins 1/21/13. The team is currently listed as a team, "on the bubble" by the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Girls Basketball

The FZN Girls Basketball team currently has a 3 - 9 overall record against a very difficult early season schedule. The team continues to show improvement each and every game. The team has been led by Senior - Shelby Bateman, who is averaging 16.5 ppg. She recently became one of just a handful of FZN players to reach the 1000 point mark for a career!

Wrestling

The Varsity Wrestling team currently is 8 - 2 in dual meet competition. The team recently finished 4th out of 25 teams at the St. Charles Invitational. The team has been led by the standout performances of Freshmen - Shaun Beeman (26 - 2), and Senior - Ryan Thomas (26 - 2) - both are highly ranked individuals in Missouri Class 3. The Wrestling team plays host to Washington on 1/17/13 for a dual competition, before heading to Columbia for the Hickman tournament on 1/18/13 - 1/19/13.

Girls Swimming

The young Girls Swimming squad has complied on overall record of 3 - 4 through the early part of the season. The team has been led by freshmen diver - Taylor Duckett, who has already qualified for the state meet. She recently smashed the school record in the 1 meter dive by a whopping 15 points. Ashley VonHartitzch has also competed well for the Swim Cats in both the 200 and 500 meter free. The girls return to action at the St. Peters Rec-Plex on 1/18/13 at they play host to a Tri-Meet featuring both Fort Zumwalt West and St. Dominic.
