Office Max Doesn't Get-It

The golden rule for all businesses is "The Customer Is Always Right".  The Office Max in O'Fallon simply doesn't get this concept.

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a desk and filing cabinet from Office Max.  My daughter purchased a backpack that would eventually result in only costing her one penny when it was time to use our Office Max bonus points.  My daughter was going to use those points to purchase her school supplies for this year.

The problem is, the person who sold us the office furniture and backpack, didn't tell us it was going to take a month for the bonus points to become available to us.  So today, it was a great shock when we went into the store only to find we couldn't use ANY of our bonus points because not enough time had elapsed between our purchase and our shopping trip today.

This is the BEST part that shows just how dumb Office Max is.  I said, "So I'm going to return all of my purchases.  Will you give me a cash refund?"  The person in the store said, "Yes".  I continued, "So I'm going to get a refund of a couple of hundred dollars because you won't authorize us to use our bonus points?"  The person said, "Yes."  I finally said, "And I'm free to take that money and go to Walmart and spend all of it there?  You do realize you'll lose this entire sale don't you?"  The person replied, "Yes".

So, Office Max lost a couple of hundred dollars over a handful of bonus points.  I was happy to take my money to Walmart.  However, the more important thing is Office Max has lost my business in the future.  As a teacher, I love telling these types of stories to parents and other teachers as we eat lunch in the teacher's lounge because others will take their business away from Office Max just as I did.

Office Max just doesn't get it.
