5 Ways to Volunteer Locally

Check out our round up of ways to give back to your community.

The city of St. Louis is the recipient of Young Explorer computers through the IBM KidSmart program. These 20 computers, built into child-friendly Little Tikes furniture, will be placed in early childhood centers in the City of St. Louis. Sites were selected where there are low-income children who will benefit most from the availability of this technology. Forty volunteers are needed to assemble computers on July 27 for about two hours. If you are willing to volunteer, please call 314.534.6015 or email vcr@visionforchildren.org. You will receive additional information about the school you will be assigned to and any opportunities for training before assembly day.

Help Out at Saint Charles Oktoberfest

Community service has always been a part of St. Charles Oktoberfest. Our goal is to offer volunteers a fun and satisfying experience and the knowledge that committing just a few hours can make a difference. The St. Charles Oktoberfest would not be successful without your thoughtful generosity.

Victims of Crime Assistance Program

The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is currently recruiting volunteers and/or interns for the Victims of Crime Assistance Program.  We are currently conducting interviews for the Fall of 2012.  Volunteers/Students will have the opportunity to learn about the criminal justice system through in-depth training and experiences.  The program allows the volunteer to spend time in various court proceedings, interact with both prosecutors and victims on a regular basis, draft letters, work with victims to recover restitution and victim compensation, provide advocacy for victims, refer victims to community resources, crisis intervention, and work with individuals seeking ex-parte/full order of protections.  All selected applicants will receive an initial 24 hours of training before entering our program, and will receive continued training throughout the semester.  Qualified applicants will also have to complete a drug screen and criminal record check. Contact Rachel Lenk at rlenk@sccmo.org for information.
