Nearly 19,000 students from both O'Fallon and St. Peters are enrolled in the Fort Zumwalt School District, making it one of the largest districts in the state. The district is comprised of 15 elementary schools, four middle schools, four high schools and an alternative high school. The first school in the district was established in 1807 in the log cabin home of settlers Jacob and Quentin Miller Zumwalt. Nearly 2,600 staff members make up the faculty with 1,300 certified teachers, librarians and counselors and 1,150 support staff including secretaries, registered nurses, cooks, bus drivers and custodians.
