May Children's Programs at SCCC Libraries Offer Stories, Crafts and Fun

You can meet the famous "Froggy" at many area libraries this month!

National Children's Book Week is May 2 - May 8. The St. Charles City-Country Library District suggests that you celebrate it by reading books as a family. Check out the wide variety of children's programming available at the St. Charles City-County Library District's branch libraries in May. Keep in mind that many of these programs have limits on the numbers of participants. Register early! Check with the individual libraries for more information. As kids get older, club/select sports seem to take over lives. We got to a point where the kids had to choose favorite activities in an attempt to limit our crazy schedule. The one thing that I insisted on was learning to read music. Once they had a feel for the basic piano, I let them drop it. One picked up the guitar and is an amazing self taught guitarist. With almost a foot of snow on the ground, it’s not surprising that most O'Fallon schools are closed today.  I appreciate that the administrators give the safety and well-being of our children top priority.  However, many of us have already had four or five snow days, and it’s only January.  There are still eight weeks left of winter, so with our recent weather history there is a lot of possibility for even more snow days!  I don’t know about all of you, but honestly, I am pretty sick of snow.  We’ve had some sort of wintery mix every week in O’Fallon for the past five weeks.  The newness and excitement of that first snowfall have long worn off.  Don’t get me wrong, the fact that we had a White Christmas was wonderful, but I am ready to …

We made snowshakes and buried an old toddler outdoor car. Kept the 5-year-old having fun for hours with her neighbor girlfriend. The 3-year-old was all about sitting at the front clear glass door watching after 15 minutes. So my other recommendation is this: window markers!
