Exhibit Opens June 3 at Spirit Center.
Mary C. Nasser is on an artistic journey. If you'd like to come along, she's providing the maps. Nasser, of Manchester, is an art teacher at St. Dominic High School. An exhibit of her paintings will be on display June 3 through July 15 at O’Fallon’s Cultural Arts Gallery in the Renaud Spirit Center, 2650 Tri Sports Circle, O’Fallon. "I'll bring out more than we'll hang," she said. "I'll probably bring 20 but we'll see whatever fits. Last time we put maybe 12 up." Christina Hummer painted for years, but it wasn’t until two years ago she turned her passion into her career.
A wife and mom of three, Christina Hummer, works out of the O’Fallon home she and her family have lived in for the past seven years. Her workspace, which used to be limited to her kitchen table, is now an entire room as well as a booming business. Hummer's love for painting began in college while attending Northwest Missouri State. She began as a fine arts major with an emphasis in graphic design. But during her sophomore year, professors strongly suggested she give up graphic design and switch to photography and painting. She would tell herself, “I’m not going to make it big. I’m not going to be making any money. I’m not going to get a job,” she said. So, even thought it would put her a year behind, Hummer switched majors her junior …

Greta Garbo, Mick Jagger, Natalie Wood and Batman can be found hanging out these days at the Renaud Spirit Center. Paintings featuring these pop culture icons are part of the latest art exhibit now on display in O'Fallon's Cultural Arts Gallery inside the Spirit Center, 2650 Tri Sports Circle. Fifteen paintings by St. Charles artist Michele Besso will be featured through May 27. "Since I was a kid I've been into drawing. I've always loved it and just kept at it," Besso said. The artist grew up in New Jersey and won an art award while in school. She credits her high school teacher, Joan Ditiera, as being one of the most influential people in her life.
