Blanchette Bridge Project Progressing Ahead of Scheudle

MoDOT hopes to open the bridge in Mid-August, three months ahead of the original schedule.

The Blanchette Bridge project is progressing ahead of schedule. On Friday morning Missouri Department of Transportation District Engineer Ed Hassinger and St. Charles Mayor Sally Faith said Friday morning that the project could be finished three months ahead of schedule.  When the westbound bridge was closed November 2, 2012, plans called for the shutdown to last for a maximum of one year. However Hassinger said MoDOT is pushing to open the bridge  annual Festival of the Little Hills in mid-August. If MoDOT hits that goal, the project would be done three months ahead of the original schedule.  MoDOT said this week that Walsh Construction installed the last major piece of structural steel for the bridge. MoDOT Schedules Work Monday on Blanchette Bridge and Interstate 70 Near Route 79

MoDOT will doing pavement repairs at Route 79 and re-striping on the Blanchette Bridge.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be busy on Monday in St. Charles County. MoDOT will close the far right lane of eastbound Interstate 70 near Route 79 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 29 for pavement repairs, weather permitting. The lane closure will begin just east of Route 79. The entrance ramp from Route 79 to eastbound I-70 will also be closed. Northbound Route 79 motorists are advised to follow the message boards and use the north outer road to detour and access eastbound I-70.                 Closer to St. Louis, MoDOT will close multiple lanes in each direction on Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday. One Lane Closed in Each Direction Saturday on I-70 over Bridge

One lane on westbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday for maintenance work, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).  Then, a lane on eastbound Interstate 70 will occur from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday. Motorists are advised to avoid eastbound and westbound I-70 and use Route 370 or Route 364 as alternate Missouri River crossings. The additional lane reduction will leave only two lanes open for westbound and eastbound I-70. Both directions of I-70 are already reduced from five lanes in each direction down to three lanes in each direction and all traffic is using the eastbound bridge. Emergency Lane Closure On I-70 Tonight

MoDOT will make an emergency repair to a broken grate on westbound I-70.

One lane on westbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge will be closed from 2:30 p.m. through evening rush hour on Jan. 31 for emergency repairs to a broken drain grate, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).  Motorists are advised to avoid westbound I-70 for evening rush and use Route 370 or Route 364 as alternate Missouri River crossings.  The additional lane reduction will leave only two lanes open for westbound I-70. Lane Closure Set for Eastbound Blanchette Bridge on Thursday

One lane of eastbound Interstate 70 will be shut down to allow MoDOT crews to repair potholes and other minor issues.

More lane closures are coming to the Blanchette Bridge. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews will be shutting down one lane on eastbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Bridge on Thursday to fix some potholes and other minor issues. The lane will be closed from 10 a.m. to noon, weather permitting. The lane closure will reduce the drive-able lanes on the bridge from three to two. Both directions of the bridge have already been reduced from five lanes as part of the bridge rehabilitation project. The westbound bridge closed in early November and scheduled to be complete in fall 2013. Additional Lane Closed on Blanchette Bridge Saturday, Jan. 19

MoDOT suggests motorists take I-364 or I-370 on Saturday.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) suggests taking an alternate route Saturday, Jan. 19 while an additional lane of westbound I-70 on the Blanchette Bridge is closed for repairs. MoDOT plans to close the right-hand lane from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. so that they can fill potholes and make minor repairs. The closure leaves only two lanes open on westbound I-70 over the Missouri River. Motorists may take I-370 or I-364 (the Page Extension) as an alternate. Interstate 70 has already been reduced from five lanes in each direction down to three lanes in each direction as all traffic is routed to the eastbound bridge during replacement of the old westbound bridge. Larry, I couldn't agree with you more. I have a dashboard camera now and I show my family how these idiots drive on their way to work. I've even caught police officers doing some crazy shit. The speed limit at the bridge is greatly reduced yet people hit it at full speed.   more ›

Blanchette Bridge Lane Closure Set for Sunday

A bypass for drivers on South Main Street will be in use beginning on Monday.

Ongoing work on the Blanchette Bridge over the Missouri River will alter traffic this weekend through next week. Maintenance work will close a lane of the Blanchette Bridge on Saturday. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., crews will close the right lane westbound to perform some maintenance work. When the work is finished, crews will then close the right lane eastbound. The work is expected to be finished by noon.  Starting Monday, Dec. 17, drivers on South Main Street under the Blanchette Bridge will be detoured onto a bypass located adjacent to existing S. Hundreds Turn Out for Blanchette Bridge Blast

St. Charles County Area Engineer Tom Evers said blast was successful with only superficial damage to one of the piers.

Contractors for the Missouri Department of Transportation blasted the westbound span of the Blanchette Bridge Tuesday morning while a crowd of hundreds watched from the riverfront in St. Charles.  The steel in the top of the bridge was blasted while the piers will be rehabbed. St. Charles County Area Engineer Tom Evers said it appeared one center piers had superficial damage to it.  Crews have 24 hours to remove the section closest to St. Louis County from the river and 48 hours to remove the rest of the steel.  Crowds gathered on the riverfront near Bishop's Landing wondered what would happen to the birds during the blast.  "We set charges to scare the fish away before we do the real blast," Evers said. MoDOT Plans Second Blanchette Bridge Blast for Dec. 4

Interstate 70 at the bridge will be closed for one hour for safety.

More closures are coming next week to the Blanchette Bridge.  Weather permitting, portions of Interstate 70 over the Missouri River will close Tuesday, Dec. 4. The closure is expected to last for one hour. Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be blasting the remaining two sections of the steel truss on the closed westbound I-70 Blanchette Bridge. Sections of the bridge were blown up earlier in November.  Road crews will close one lane of I-70 in both directions at 9 a.m. An hour later, at 10 a.m., all eastbound I-70 traffic will be detoured off the highway at Route 94 and directed to Route 364 where they can proceed eastbound on Route 364 to Interstate 270 and back north to I-70. Blanchette Bridge Blast Planned for Sunday

Interstate 70 will be closed Sunday from 10 to 11 a.m. Vehicles will be detoured to Interstate 364 and Interstate 270.

Interstate 70 will shut down entirely near the Blanchette Bridge on Sunday around 10 a.m. while crews blast part of the truss on the westbound span, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Traffic will close for about an hour to allow crews time to clear the area, remove the debris and inspect the eastbound span of the bridge for safety. In addition, the KATY Trail near the bridge, Bangert Island Conservation Area and parts of Riverwoods Trail will be closed near the bridge. A portion of Ameristar Casino will be evacuated near the trail and the casino plans to restrict portions of the parking garage close to the bridge.
