Boys Basketball: Timberland Wins Playoff Opener in 2OT Thriller Over Zumwalt West

Timberland advances to play Troy Buchanan on Wednesday in district semifinals.

Four periods couldn't decide it. Neither could five.  The Timberland High School boys basketball team fought tooth and nail with Fort Zumwalt West Monday evening through four quarters and two overtimes. Ultimately, the Timberwolves outlasted the Jaguars in an exciting 64-60 double-overtime win that opened the Class 5, District 6 Missouri State High School Activities Association playoffs.  Four Timberland players scored in the double digits, including Andrew Jehle, who turned in a 15 point performance to help lead the Timberwolves (7-17) on to the second round of the district tournament against Troy Buchanan, which had a first-round bye. Zumwalt West's Kory Tennant led all shooters in scoring with 24 points. But the Jaguars (10-16) shot …

Lutheran Boys Drop Contest to O'Fallon Christian

Turnovers prove costly to Cougars in loss to Eagles.

The O’Fallon Christian Academy Eagles basketball team’s defense and rebounding certainly created a lot of scoring opportunities in last night’s contest against the Lutheran St. Charles Cougars at Lutheran.  The Cougars committed 15 turnovers in the 71-58 loss to Christian while the Eagles committed 10.  “In the Fox Tournament, we had two really tough games,” O’Fallon coach Dave Meers said. “We had a lot of defensive intensity. It was the name of the game for us tonight. The thing we really wanted to focus on was man-to-man and cutting off the lane, making them shoot outside. They did a good job of shooting outside at times and made us go out further than what we wanted to. They have some good outside shooters who are young. I thought we …

O'Fallon Christian Stays Unbeaten, Sends St. Charles to second Loss This Week

Behind Glenville, Christian's scoring depth too much for host Pirates.

Adam Glenville is on a quest to take the O'Fallon Christian boys basketball team to new heights. On Friday the 6-foot-4, 190-pound senior forward garnered praise from St. Charles coach Rick Foster, whose team lost 74-64 to the visiting Eagles in a non-conference contest. "The Glenville kid is probably one of the better players in the area this year," Foster said. Glenville poured in a game-high 27 points against the Pirates - seven points above his season average in leading Christian to its fifth win to start the season. He helped the Eagles turn a 12-point, first-quarter deficit into a 16-point lead by the fourth and scored 10 points in the final stanza to quell a St. Charles comeback bid. "Adam's really taken on the mentality of leading …

Fort Zumwalt North Topples Francis Howell North for Class 5, District 8 Title

Panthers start quick and put away Knights down the stretch to prevail, 66-49.

ST. PETERS – For the first time in nearly a decade, Fort Zumwalt North’s boys’ basketball team is District champions. Unfortunately for Francis Howell North, its Cinderella run came to a screeching halt Friday night. Fueled by a hot start that saw the Panthers score the opening 16 points, Zumwalt North led throughout and fended off the Knights’ fourth-quarter rally to prevail, 66-49, to claim the Class 5, District 8 championship. The victory gave the second-seeded Panthers (20-7) their first District title since 2002. “It’s been a long time. It’s such a great feeling,” Zumwalt North’s 6-foot-5 junior center Drew Lowrey said. “We’ve worked so hard and so long for this. I’m so proud of our team that we won.” Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Howell …

St. Dominic Boys Wrap Up Imo's Christmas Tournament

Crusaders defeat Wolves for consolation championship on Thursday.

A tournament championship would have been ideal, but the Crusaders say they were happy with their 55-24 victory over the Timberland Wolves on Thursday in the Imo's Christmas Tournament. The St. Dominic boys suffered a loss to Parkway North on Monday, but after defeating Lutheran St. Charles on Wednesday, they were well on their way to winning the consolation tournament. "Obviously winning the tournament was where we wanted to be, but we are just as excited to win the consolation tournament," coach Kurt Schneider said. After a big start and an 11-5 lead after the first quarter, the Crusaders were close to letting Timberland catch up. St. Dominic allowed Timberland to go on a 6-0 run at one point, before the half ended with the score 20-19 …

Jaguars Defeat Rival Bulldogs in Overtime

Fort Zumwalt West took on Fort Zumwalt South at Lindenwood University Wednesday night

With a longtime rivalry between the Zumwalt West Jaguars and the Zumwalt South Bulldogs, the Jaguars had to stay calm and ignore the chants and pre-game jitters at Wednesday's night game where they defeated the Bulldogs, 68-64.  "No matter where we play or who we play, we're pumped," Zumwalt West coach Chad Towers said. Lindenwood University hosted the game between cross town rivals in the Robert F. Hyland Performance Arena.  Despite battling nerves heading into the big game, the Jaguars and their coaching staff seemed calm and prepared. "We have to have good energy," Towers said. A typical turnout for a road game is generally small but these two school's fans brought their A-game. With costumed fans such as Where's Waldo, Buzz …
