City of O’Fallon Celebrates Veterans Day With Sunday Ceremony

The event will be held at the First Responders 9-11 Memorial outside the O’Fallon Police Department at the O'Fallon Municipal Centre, 100 North Main St.
The ceremony will honor World War II veterans at 1 p.m. at City Hall.
The City of O'Fallon will host a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at City Hall. The ceremony will honor World War II veterans to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the attacks on U.S. Pacific Fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. O'Fallon's all-inclusive playground is set to open in less than two weeks. Brendan’s Playground in Westhoff Park is a special park designed so children with and without disabilities can play together in a safe and fun environment. Families are welcome to bring the kids to the city's grand opening celebration for Brendan’s Playground on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Westhoff Park. The ceremony will also offer refreshments, characters to entertain the kids, a band, and the music of students from J.L. Mudd Elementary School and Westhoff Elementary School General parking for the ceremony will be available in Westhoff Park on the park’s west side. A large crowd of O'Fallon residents gathered at the Veterans Memorial Walk on Monday to pay tribute to those who serve our country.
A large crowd began their Memorial Day by gathering at O'Fallon's Veterans Memorial Walk to pay tribute to our service men and woman who are currently serving and those who lost their lives serving our country. The ceremony began with American Legion Post 388 presenting the colors, Mayor Bill Hennessy welcoming the crowd and Fort Zumwalt South sophomore Sam Horstmeier reading a special essay he wrote about the importance of honoring military heroes. Armed Forces Day is dedicated to Americans serving in the five branches of military service, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. During O’Fallon’s annual ceremony on Saturday, residents paid tribute to women in past and present military service, as well. Pat Vogel, of the O'Fallon Veteran Commission said the purpose of the ceremony is to honor both the living and deceased.
