O'Fallon officers will continue to increase their presence to cut down on the number of accidents and deaths caused by aggressive driving.
Looking to crack down on aggresive driving in the city, the O'Fallon Police Department held its first aggresive driving enforcement detail last week at the intersection of Highway K and Highway N. The effort is part of a new driving safety program aimed at discouraging drivers from aggressive behaviors including, speeding, red light violations and improper lane usage. The enforcement resulted in 39 total violations, including: Signs indicating “Aggressive Driving Enforcement” were placed along Highway K to alert drivers. Two separate “spotters” were used to watch for violations and relay those vehicle descriptions to officers on the perimeter. Those perimeter officers then conducted a traffic stop on those violators. Police issue 36 citations at two intersections.
O’Fallon Police recently conducted a red light violation enforcement that lead to 36 citations. Two teams of officers worked for four-hours on April 24 at the intersections of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway at Bryan Road and Highway K at Highway N. According to police, these intersections are both high violation areas and in the top five for intersections with the highest number of crashes. During the detail, officers conducted 35 traffic stops, issuing 26 red light or failure to yield right of way on green light violations. One person was charged with driving when license revoked. Police patrolled O'Fallon roads for impaired drivers in November.
Four people were arrested for driving intoxicated in O'Fallon during the month of November. O'Fallon Police cracked down on drunk driving on city roadways, conducting several DWI Saturation Patrols, with officers working 4-hour overtime shifts. A total of 27 citations were issued during the 49 traffic stops conducted by O'Fallon officers during peak DWI offense times. According to police, in addition to four drunk driving arrests, one suspect was arrested for driving on a revoked or suspended license and a fugitive was taken into custody on unrelated charges. Two teams of officers worked for four-hours on Oct. 3 at the intersections of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway at Bryan Road and Route K at Route N. According to police, these intersections are both high violation areas and in the top five for intersections with the highest number of crashes. During the detail, officers conducted 28 traffic stops, issuing 18 red light or failure to yield right of way on green light violations. Two drivers were arrested for outstanding warrants and one person was charged with Driving While Suspended. Good to see the Police trying to calm down the many aggressive drivers. Maybe the Police can tell drivers that "Yield" signs don't mean race to beat the other car, especially by the Post office & Home depot.   more ›
