Civic Hall Demolition Underway

City staff is working with an engineering firm to decide the best location in Civic Park to build a new facility and take a look at the possibility of expanding or enclosing portions of Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center.

Crews began tearing down O'Fallon's old Civic Hall building Thursday.  The O'Fallon City Council decided last April that the condemned building should be replaced and not renovated. O’Fallon Director of Parks and Recreation Cindy Springer said city staff is working with an engineering firm to decide the best location in Civic Park to build a new facility and take a look at the possibility of expanding or enclosing portions of Alligator’s Creek Aquatic Center. The city hopes to have a final design by June, along with cost estimates. No date is yet identified for construction to begin. A citizen survey of the new projects—including the justice center and O'Day Park—is planned for May or June. Results of the survey may affect ballot options …

O'Fallon Civic Hall Demolition Contract Approved

The $38,000 contract covers the demolition of Civic Hall and a building at O'Day Park.

The O'Fallon City Council has approved a contract for the demolition of Civic Hall. The Civic Park building was declared unusable in 2011, and funds for demolition were approved in the 2013 budget. Also included in the contract was the demolition of an deteriorated residential building in the future O'Day Park property. Cannon Excavation Company was the low bidder at $38,140. The contract includes asbstos abatement, demolition and removal, abandonment of existing utilities, fill, grading and site restoration. READ MORE:

O’Fallon Talks Plans for New Civic Park, Justice Center and Possible Bond Issue to Fund

City staff said that the earliest the bond issue could go to the citizens for a vote would be in the November election.

A bond issue to fund three city facility projects may come before O’Fallon voters as early as the November 2013 election. O'Fallon City staff and council members discussed the possibility during Thursday’s workshop, along with updates on the projects which include, a new Civic Hall, justice center and developments in O'Day Park. The facility planning process was a priority in O'Fallon's 2012 Strategic Plan. Since September, city staff met to plan the next steps and develop a potential timeline for the process of each project. City Council to Discuss Possible Bond Issue for New Civic Hall, Justice Center

City staff said that the earliest the bond issue could go to the citizens for a vote would be in the November election.

A Valentine's Day work session of the O'Fallon City Council will discuss the possibility of a November 2013 bond election to fund the city's plans for a new Civic Hall, justice center and municipal courts, and developments in O'Day Park. O'Fallon's 2012 Strategic Plan made facilities improvement a priority for the city, and the council directed staff to proceed with planning. The city decided last April that Civic Hall should be replaced and not just renovated. Parks and Recreation has already given the city a list of the features they would like to see included in the new facility. Mayor Hennessy Delivers ‘State of the City Address’

O'Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy lists road improvements, technology upgrades, maintaining the city's rank as second safest city in the country and more as priorities for 2012.

Continued maintenance and improvement of city streets top the list of priorities for the City of O’Fallon in 2012. Mayor Bill Hennessy took a look back at city accomplishments in 2011 and shared plans for this year’s upcoming projects during his State of the City Address on Friday morning. “One of my goals when I took office was to see this city invest in our infrastructure and ensure that O’Fallon is a city that remains strong in the future,” he said. “We saw many developments along these lines last year.” The city replaced more than $1 million worth of concrete slabs in O’Fallon subdivisions in 2011 and has $1 million budgeted in 2012 for slab repair and asphalt overlay. O’Fallon Partners With OASIS to Provide Activities for Older Adults in St. Charles County

Adults age 50 and older will have the opportunity to participate in more than 30 programs focusing on wellness, health and continuing education this fall in O’Fallon.

From hands-on, magic trick workshops to chair yoga, adults 50 and older will have a variety of activities to sign up for this fall in O’Fallon. The City of O’Fallon has partnered with St. Louis OASIS to help adults over the age of 50 find ways to get out of the house and meet new people, continue living healthy lifestyles and be active members of the community. The OASIS Institute is a national education organization dedicated to helping older adults improve their quality of life. The organization, founded in St. Louis 29 years ago, provides services in 27 cities throughout the United States and has expanded to St. Charles County as the program continues to grow in St. Louis.
