New Emergency Communications Tower in O'Fallon Could Reach to 345 Feet

The O'Fallon tower will be placed at the Sheriff's Department, across from Fort Zumwalt North High School.

Patch spoke with Jennifer George, director of policy for St. Charles County about some specifics for the tower being placed in O'Fallon. The 345-foot tower, which will be built on the Sheriff's Department property at 101 Sheriff Dierker Court, is just off Tom Ginnever Avenue. Communication Tower Site at Sheriff's Office Just One of 12 Proposed for County

The new unified system for St. Charles County is expected to eliminate gaps in coverage areas for first responders.

In 2009, St. Charles County came up with a plan to meet a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandate for upgraded emergency communications for first responders. A 1/4-cent sales tax was approved by St. Charles County voters in 2009 to fund the changes, which would eliminate the systems currently in place in the various municipalities. A single, unified system for law enforcement, fire, ambulance and public works communications would help to eliminate the gaps in service that resulted from the previous patchwork of systems. The new unified system is expected to be more economical and also make it easier for an agency in one municipality to speak with an agency in a different municipality.
