The Fourth of July means a lot of different things to a lot of people. It's the birthday of the old U S of A, it's a day off work, it's a day to barbecue and, of course, it's a day for fireworks.  When the sun goes down, the real show begins. Fireworks and the Fourth are a tradition that goes together like peanut butter and jelly.  While firework shows around the area are being called off because of fire concerns, St. Charles County has made it through relatively unscathed. Be Safe, Avoid Fireworks Injuries This July 4th

Every day around the Fourth of July, people are injured with personal fireworks.

With burn bans, excessive heat and local regulations, there are few places in St. Louis County where personal firework use is permitted this Fourth of July. If you are going to use firecrackers, remember to watch out for dry conditions.  The Red Cross also offers these helpful safety tips for personal firework usage.

With the Fourth of July holiday coming up, local fire and police officials remind residents that the drought-like conditions and fireworks don’t mix.

Local emergency personnel are urging residents to be aware of the possible increase in fire and medical emergencies due the dry conditions and heat in St. Charles County. Temperatures have lingered in the 100s for days, and with the Fourth of July holiday coming up, fire and police officials warn that the drought-like conditions and fireworks don’t mix. Some fire departments, including Wentzville and Cottleville, have already seen small grass fires due to personal fireworks displays. On Monday afternoon, several emergency workers gathered at the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Office to discuss the potential dangers.
