Voters to Decide on $15 Million Bond Issue For Fort Zumwalt in April

According to STLtoday.com, the money would provide for improvements throughout the district, including the addition of security cameras in all schools.

The Fort Zumwalt School District is asking voters to approve a no-tax-increase $15 million bond issue for district-wide improvements on April 2, according to STLtoday.com.  According to the article, improvements would include: A bond issue is a loan made by the district with permission of the registered voters in the district. General obligation bonds must pass with four-sevenths of the majority vote.  In 2011, 66.49 percent of local voters approved Fort Zumwalt's Proposition 1. The proposition requested $18.5 million in general obligation bonds with no tax increase for residents, to help pay off a leasehold revenue bond issue passed in 1997, and free up between $3 million and $4 million per year in the district’s operating fund. Former Zumwalt West Middle School Teacher Accused of Taping Students Faces New Federal Charges

Matt Hansen, 38, Winfield, goes to trial on March 12.

A former Fort Zumwalt West Middle School teacher who was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography and allegedly taping students undressing at camp is now facing federal charges, according to STLtoday.com.  Matt Hansen, 39, Winfield, taught seventh grade math in the district since 2004, and was placed on administrative leave in 2012.  According to STLtoday.com, Hansen was indicted in federal court on Thursday "on eight counts of attempted production of child pornography and one count of possession of child porn." No Election For Fort Zumwalt School Board: Two Candidates Will Swear in at April Meeting

Mike Swaringim and Scott Grasser will be sworn in at the April 15 board of education meeting.

Fort Zumwalt School District will not hold an election for the board of education this year.  Two candidates filed for two open seats on the board. The terms of Scott Grasser and Carol Russell end in April.  Nancy Coleman from Fort Zumwalt Administrative Services, said Mike Swaringim and Scott Grasser will be sworn in at the April 15 board of education meeting.  Swaringim served on the Fort Zumwalt Board of Education from 1999 until his defeat in the 2011 election. He served as board president at various times throughout his terms. According to the district website, Grasser has served on the board since 2004.  Fort Zumwalt School board members serve three-year terms.

Fort Zumwalt Kindergarten Registration Scheduled For March 7

Registration will take place at local elementary schools from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Information provided by the Fort Zumwalt School District.  Registration for incoming kindergarten students in the Fort Zumwalt School District for the 2013 -2014 school year is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., March 7, 2013. Registration will take place at Dardenne, Emge, J. L. Mudd, Mount Hope, St. Peters, Progress South, Hawthorn, Twin Chimneys, Ostmann, Rock Creek, Mid Rivers, Pheasant Point and Westhoff Elementary Schools. To be eligible for Kindergarten, a child must have reached the age of five before Aug. 1. Children who have not attended kindergarten in the Fort Zumwalt School District and have reached the age of six years before Aug. 1, may register for the first grade on the same date and at the same locations. Fort Zumwalt Superintendent Named to County School Security Task Force

The task force will hold two meetings in January.

Information provided in a news release from St. Charles County.   St. Charles County, Missouri _ County Executive Steve Ehlmann has named 14 people to the St. Charles County School Task Force for a term expiring June 1, 2013. The task force will hold two meetings in January at the St. Charles County Administration Building, 201 North Second Street, Rooms 115-116. St. Charles County Task Force to Study School Safety

The task force will study and make recommendations lto improve safety at local schools and colleges.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, CT. that killed 20 students and six adults last week, the St. Charles County Council is taking a closer look at local school safety.  The council passed an emergency ordinance Monday night, establishing a task force to study and make recommendations to improve safety procedures at local public, private schools and colleges “We need to hear from the schools and law enforcement and everyone involved,” said County Executive Steve Ehlmann, in a news release. “If we talk about this, and everyone shares their ideas, I think it could lead to some new procedures.
