Zumwalt South Girls Down Francis Howell

Bulldogs claw their way back for the victory.

The Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs overcame a slow start Thursday night to pick up a 48-37 victory over the Francis Howell Lady Vikings. The host Vikings jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter. However, Zumwalt South began to use a full court press in the 2nd quarter, and it paid off as the Lady Bulldogs outscored Howell 14-10 in the 2nd quarter. Nonetheless, the Lady Vikings still had a comfortable 32-20, halftime lead.  The third quarter proved to be pivotal as the Bulldogs continued to use their high-pressure defense and outscored the Vikings 17-2, and South led it 37-34 going into the fourth. In the fourth, South outscored Howell 11-3. Fort Zumwalt held Francis Howell to just five points in the second half.     The Bulldogs …

Athlete of the Week: Zumwalt South's Bowman Overtime Heroics Win Accolades

Fort Zumwalt South's Dillon Bowman wins the Athlete of the Week award.

Tray Mitchell has been taken down this week.  The three-time champion of the Patch Athlete of the Week vote was finally beaten. All it took was some overtime heroics from Zumwalt South's Dillon Bowman. Let's see how the voting went down.  Which St. Charles County football player was the best in the first round of the 2012 playoffs? Bowman may not have had the big numbers Thursday night against Zumwalt North, but he came through when it mattered. Bowman picked a 25-yard touchdown run in overtime and then successfully made the two-point conversion to give the Bulldogs a big Week 10 playoff win over the rival Panthers. Playoffs: District Football Playoffs Continue Wednesday Night

St. Dominic will face Helias in the second round of the District playoffs.

Ten weeks of the season have gone by, and now the field has been narrowed. Week 10 eliminated half the teams from State title contention. Now Round 2 of the District playoffs continue. Let's get to the matchups.   The second round of the Class 4, District 6 tournament features a game featuring the Crusaders against the Crusaders.  Helias, despite a 6-4 record, is the second seed and the home team against 9-1 St. Dominic. While St. Dominic plays against smaller schools in conference play, Helias, an independent, usually plays a tougher schedule.  St. Dominic has been potent offensively this year, scoring an average of 33.1 points per contest. Matchups Set for District Football Playoffs

Week 10 kicks off the new-look Missouri football playoff format.

Week 10 of the high school football season in Missouri is no longer a battle to improve playoff standings. Instead, it's a chance to keep playing—or see a season end.  Wanting to have every regular season game count, the powers that be changed the playoff format this season. A complex point system was created to make sure every game played weighed into the playoff seeding. Athlete of the Week: Zumwalt South's Abbington Picks up Award

The Bulldogs' Chase Abbington is the fan choice for top football player from Week 2 of the high school season.

Chase Abbington's big Week 2 didn't go unnoticed. After leading the Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs to a win, Abbington came up big again. With 83 percent of the vote, Abbington won the Patch St. Charles County Athlete of the Week award.  Here's how the  voting broke down: Who was the top football player from Week 2 of the 2012 season? Abbington had a good day on the ground against Francis Howell Central would be a bit of an understatement. The Bulldogs' senior running back dominated the Spartans in the rain. Athlete of the Week: Taylor Wade Named GAC Player of the Year

Fort Zumwalt South's Taylor Wade wins fan's choice award.

Taylor Wade is not just a goal scorer. Sure the Zumwalt South star can score—she scored 17 goals this season—but she can also be a playmaker. She led the GAC with 19 assists and was second in the conference in total points. Her offensive output was enough to garner the attention of fans across the GAC. Wade's showing was good enough to get her the crown of Patch's fan's choice poll for GAC soccer player of the year. Here's how the voting broke down: Who is the top GAC girls soccer player for the 2012 season? Wade was part of a strong offensive attack from Zumwalt South. The Bulldogs compiled an 18-9-0 mark this year and scored 70 goals. An impressive 17 came off the foot of Wade. Her goal output, third in the GAC North, was just part of …

Help us name the fan's choice for GAC girls soccer player of the year.

All across St. Charles County fans got to witness great performances from girls soccer players. Here's what we're looking for: Who is the top GAC girls soccer player for the 2012 season? Here are the nominees:  Lydia Meeks—St. Charles High School: The Pirates' Lydia Meeks was a top-5 offensive threat in the GAC North this season. The St. Charles High School student finished in the top-5 in points, goals and assists. Meeks netted 14 goals and picked up 12 helpers for the Pirates. Her 40 points were fifth in the conference, but her goals and assists both put her in a tie for fourth. She also added two game-winning goals for St. Charles.  Samantha Fennessey and Mackenzie Crawford—Fort Zumwalt West: The Zumwalt West soccer team went 21-5-1 …
