The department will close all lanes and ramps of Interstate 64 in both directions downtown between Hampton and Forest Park Parkway at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1. While the interstate is closed, crews will remove the Taylor and Newstead bridges over I-64 as part of a project to construct a new interchange at Tower Grove and Boyle and replace four bridges over the interstate. Construction crews have started work on a new span of the Daniel Boone Bridge that will eventually replace the narrow, 1935 westbound portion connecting Chesterfield and St. Charles County.
Local officials praised the start of construction on a new span of the I-64 Daniel Boone Bridge as the culmination of many years worth of effort at a Thursday's groundbreaking ceremony. The ceremony included officials from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission and MoDOT along with federal, state and local elected officials and area business leaders. "There are a lot of people who have worked hard for a long time to get to this point," MoDOT District Engineer Ed Hassinger said. The Daniel Boone Bridge crosses the Missouri River and connects Chesterfield to St. Charles County. The new $110.9 million span will replace the almost 80-year-old, narrower westbound portion of the bridge, which was constructed in 1935. The new …

Drivers are advised to look for alternate routes.
The westbound lanes of Highway 40/I-64 near the Boone Bridge are currently blocked due to a traffic accident involving several vehicles. Chesterfield Police Capt. Steve Lewis said traffic is backed up considerably and advised drivers via Twitter to look for alternate routes. Emergency crews are working to clear the scene, Lewis said, but there are no estimates for when traffic will be able to get through again. Fox2's John Pertzborn reported via Twitter that the accident involved two tractor-trailers on the Boone Bridge, one of which jacknifed, according to KMOX reporter Brian Kelly. No injuries reported yet.

The design incorporates an entrance sign and plants.
Construction is now complete on the entrance sign and landscaping project at the Highway K and Interstate 64 entrance in O'Fallon. This is the first step in a long-term plan from the Community Landscape Improvement Program (CLIP) committee, for a city beautification project. The City Council unanimously approved basic design concepts for the project at the council's April 26 workshop. They approved an ordinance establishing a licence agreement with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) at the July 12 meeting. The design incorporates the O’Fallon City Hall building and clock tower into the stone posts and steel structure of the sign. It also includes plans for native plants. O’Fallon’s Director of Public Relations Tom Drabelle …

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close all lanes and ramps on the eastbound double deck structure downtown from Jefferson Avenue to the Poplar Street Bridge, starting at 7 p.m. Friday, November 16. Since work is directly over downtown lanes of Interstate 55 and I-70, traffic on those interstates may be shifted as crews work overhead. All eastbound I-64 lanes and most ramps should reopen by 5:30 a.m. Monday. This should be the final major closure on the interstate as part of the project to remove and replace the driving surface. Drivers can still expect some lane closures on the double deck structure during off-peak traffic hours to smooth the pavement. Crews will also close all lanes on eastbound and westbound I-70 at…

MoDOT held an open house Tuesday to unveil plans for the new bridge.
The old Boone Bridge was built in 1935, and MoDOT says it's time for it to go. The new bridge that will take its place over the Missouri River will have a very different look, but it will also offer new opportunities for hikers, bikers and sight-seers. MoDOT held an open house Tuesday at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C facility to allow the public a chance to examine plans and ask questions about the bridge project. The new bridge will look similar to the Chain of Rocks Bridge in north St. Louis County, without the familiar steel upper framework. A biking/walking lane on the new bridge will connect the Monarch Levee Trail on the St. Louis side to the Katy Trail on the St. Charles side, and the trail will have a "bump-out" where …
