Blanchette Bridge Lane closures scheduled Saturday.
One lane on westbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday for maintenance work, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Then, a lane on eastbound Interstate 70 will occur from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday. Motorists are advised to avoid eastbound and westbound I-70 and use Route 370 or Route 364 as alternate Missouri River crossings. The additional lane reduction will leave only two lanes open for westbound and eastbound I-70. Both directions of I-70 are already reduced from five lanes in each direction down to three lanes in each direction and all traffic is using the eastbound bridge. One lane on westbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge will be closed from 2:30 p.m. through evening rush hour on Jan. 31 for emergency repairs to a broken drain grate, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Motorists are advised to avoid westbound I-70 for evening rush and use Route 370 or Route 364 as alternate Missouri River crossings. One lane of eastbound Interstate 70 will be shut down to allow MoDOT crews to repair potholes and other minor issues.
More lane closures are coming to the Blanchette Bridge. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews will be shutting down one lane on eastbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Bridge on Thursday to fix some potholes and other minor issues. The lane will be closed from 10 a.m. to noon, weather permitting. The lane closure will reduce the drive-able lanes on the bridge from three to two. Both directions of the bridge have already been reduced from five lanes as part of the bridge rehabilitation project. The westbound bridge closed in early November and scheduled to be complete in fall 2013. MoDOT suggests motorists take I-364 or I-370 on Saturday.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) suggests taking an alternate route Saturday, Jan. 19 while an additional lane of westbound I-70 on the Blanchette Bridge is closed for repairs. MoDOT plans to close the right-hand lane from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. so that they can fill potholes and make minor repairs. The closure leaves only two lanes open on westbound I-70 over the Missouri River. Motorists may take I-370 or I-364 (the Page Extension) as an alternate. Interstate 70 has already been reduced from five lanes in each direction down to three lanes in each direction as all traffic is routed to the eastbound bridge during replacement of the old westbound bridge. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close the Taylor and Newstead bridges over Interstate 64 starting after morning rush period Monday Jan. 21. On Jan. 21-23, crews will close the inside lane on I-64 in both directions overnight to fill in the rumble strips. Work will start about 8 p.m. Monday on the eastbound lanes and then will move to the westbound lanes after eastbound is finished. Lanes will be reopened to traffic by 5 a.m. the following morning. MoDOT has a full closure of both eastbound and westbound I-64 from Kingshighway Boulevard to Forest Park Parkway scheduled for the weekend of January 25 to remove the Taylor and Newstead bridges. Robert Staufenbiel was in his semi-truck on I-70 when a utility truck, salting the highway, failed to notice the stopped semi and hit the towed unit of the truck. Staufenbiel was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
A 51-year-old St. Peters man was seriously injured in a car accident along Interstate 70 Monday morning. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol website, Robert Staufenbiel in his 2002 International 4900 semi-truck on I-70, near the Bryan Road exit in O'Fallon, when a utility truck salting the highway failed to notice the stopped semi and hit the towed unit of the semi. Staufenbiel was taken to St. Joseph East Hospital by St. Charles County ambulance. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has started the final week of work on the Interstate 64 double deck project downtown. Weather permitting, significant lane closures on the eastbound I-64 double deck structure between Pine Street and the Poplar Street Bridge should end by Friday, Jan. 18. Work has begun on a new construction project slightly west of there. Currently, crews are completing utility relocation work for an updated interchange between I-64 and Tower Grove, in partnership with BJC Healthcare and Washington University Medical Center. A bypass for drivers on South Main Street will be in use beginning on Monday.
Ongoing work on the Blanchette Bridge over the Missouri River will alter traffic this weekend through next week. Maintenance work will close a lane of the Blanchette Bridge on Saturday. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., crews will close the right lane westbound to perform some maintenance work. When the work is finished, crews will then close the right lane eastbound. The work is expected to be finished by noon. Starting Monday, Dec. 17, drivers on South Main Street under the Blanchette Bridge will be detoured onto a bypass located adjacent to existing S. More closures are coming next week to the Blanchette Bridge. Weather permitting, portions of Interstate 70 over the Missouri River will close Tuesday, Dec. 4. The closure is expected to last for one hour. Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be blasting the remaining two sections of the steel truss on the closed westbound I-70 Blanchette Bridge. Larry, I couldn't agree with you more. I have a dashboard camera now and I show my family how these idiots drive on their way to work. I've even caught police officers doing some crazy shit. The speed limit at the bridge is greatly reduced yet people hit it at full speed.   more ›
