O'Fallon's Firing of City Administrator Could Cost Upwards of $112K

Details on the firing don't go further than the O'Fallon City Council officially chalking it up to a desire to change the direction of the city's leadership.

O'Fallon officials have reached a separation agreement with Keith Riesberg, the city administrator who was fired Jan. 10, and it appears to be costing the city a good amount of money.  According to an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the agreement with Riesberg includes severance pay of $62,491 and could cost the city more than $112,000, plus medical and life insurance coverage. And if Riesberg doesn't find a full-time job by Aug. 10, he'll receive additional weekly severance payments of $2,403 until Dec. 31 or until he gets a new job before that date. Details on the firing don't go further than the O'Fallon City Council officially chalking it up to a desire to change the direction of the city's leadership. Further, city officials …

The wool has been pulled over the city councils eyes by the department heads for a while now. Example... non-working Formen come into work with their crews on over time pay and Dont work. They eat lunch and hang out at the shop. Thats a waste of manpower and spending. Employees in O'Fallon need a councilman or woman to come down and talk the guys on the Streets. The constant ignorance of …   more ›

‘What’s that you’re saying?’ Councilman Wants Plain Language Requirement on O’Fallon Books

City manager says an ordinance could make things easier to block city efforts. Keith Riesberg says he prefers a plain language guideline.

Ward 2 Councilman Jim Pepper said wants O’Fallon’s ordinances to be clearer. Pepper introduced a bill during the O’Fallon City Council meeting Thursday that would require the city to use plain language or define terms when drafting ordinances and other official documents.  “A lot of our ordinances are vague,” Pepper said. "I think they should be more definitive and less subjective and opinion oriented." During the meeting, he said if citizens are expected to obey the law, and ignorance is no excuse, then laws should be written to be “clear, concise and easy to understand." However, City Administrator Keith Riesberg said requiring bills to be written in plain language could spell trouble for the city down the road. “The concern staff has is…

The citywide smoking ban takes effect in a little more a month, but O’Fallon officials have already begun efforts to educate the public and business owners on the requirements. City Administrator Keith Riesberg briefed the council with an overview on plans to enforce the Smoke Free Air Act at the workshop on Thursday evening. Riesberg said the city is following the lead of other municipalities that have implemented a ban, and has begun efforts to remind the public that the law has been adopted and spell out the requirements. Correction Mr. Frain. 73% of 19% of O'Fallon voters passed the bill, or 7212 out of roughly 50,000. It is true, O'Fallon is a city of laws. Sadly, it used to be a city of freedom of choice too. I would also point out to you, Mr. Frain, that freedom of speech still exists and while I disagree with some of his advice, Mr. Hannegan has a right to respond to a public article. Surely you are not …   more ›

O'Fallon City Council, Residents Discuss Issues with Residential Rental Inspections

Council members and residents discussed ways to improve the year-old inspection program at a workshop on Thursday night.

Council members and O’Fallon landlords discussed concerns with the city’s new residential rental property inspection program at the City Council’s workshop on Feb. 10. O’Fallon has four inspectors who check properties for compliance with city electrical, plumbing, exterior and interior health and safety codes. City ordinance requires all open rental properties to be inspected before occupants move in. The inspection program began in March 2010. Several council members said they have received complaints from residents about the inconsistency and expectations of the inspections. Mayor Bill Hennessy said he received calls from residents who said inspectors were requiring them to install equipment, like ground fault interrupters, not required …

I would want to know the house I was living in is safe. i am sure the inspectors are not trying to burden home owners, they are just trying to make sure life safety is priority. Boohoo to the homeowner who had to invest 160.00 to bring his property up to code. Would you move your wife and kids into a home that could be a hazard. THINK ABOUT IT,,,, WHAT IS A LIFE WORTH?   more ›
