Zumwalt West, Timberland Ready For Friday Night Football Showdown

GAC South foes will square off as 4-2 Zumwalt West hosts 2-4 Timberland.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – PREP FOOTBALL GAME PREVIEW Timberland Wolves (2-4)  vs.  Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars (4-2) Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Hoekel Stadium Two teams coming off big wins last week, will meet in an important GAC South football matchup at Fort Zumwalt West’s Hoekel Stadium Friday night, when the Timberland Wolves trek east down I-70 for showdown with the first place West Jaguars. Timberland, which desperately needed to get back on the winning track after losing four straight, did just that was a fantastic 38-26 win over Fort Zumwalt North last week. 2011 Prep Football Preview: Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars

Zumwalt West went 10-3 and advanced to the Class 6 state semifinals in 2010, will open 2011 with home game against CBC on Aug. 26.

Inside of the walls of the Fort Zumwalt West High School football program, head coach Paul Day and his staff of assistants don’t ever talk about winning state championships. Never mind Fort Zumwalt West’s 67-40 overall record, six conference titles, and six playoff appearances in just 10 years of its varsity existence, Day just doesn’t believe in premature state championship talk, and he certainly doesn’t encourage it. The coach instead believes his program is best built to compete for conference and district titles very year, and that the Jaguars should just “let the chips fall where they may” once the state playoffs roll around.
