A spokesman for the home-improvement chain said plans were withdrawn to build a new store on the O'Fallon-Lake Saint Louis- border, due to President Barack Obama's policies.
Earlier this week, a Menards spokesman cited President Barack Obama's policies as the reason for pulling the plug on plans to build a new store on the O'Fallon-Lake Saint Louis border. Some Patch readers said they support the decison, while others said they aren't buying the reasoning. O'Fallon Patch reported on Dec. 6, according to documents in the O'Fallon Planning and Zoning Commission meeting agenda packet, representatives from the store requested to withdraw the applications for the conditional use permit, site plan and rezoning for the project at the end of November. O'Fallon Planning and Development Director David Woods said he was told the decision was made looking at the "big picture," which included the economic direction of …

The home-improvement chain recently withdrew plans to build a new store on the Lake Saint Louis-O'Fallon border citing President Barack Obama's policies.
The Suburban Journals reported Monday that a Menard's spokesman has blamed President Obama and his administration for Menard's decision to pull the plug on plans to build a new store on Hwy. N south of I-64. Meanwhile the St. Peters store remains on pace to open next year. The development would have straddled the O'Fallon-Lake Saint Louis border, with the Menard's store itself in O'Fallon, but part of the parking lot and outlot businesses in Lake Saint Louis. The Journal quoted an email from Menards spokesman Jeff Abbott: "I'm very sorry, but we are a family owned business and with the Obama Administration scaring the dickens out of all small businesses in the USA at present, we have decided not to risk expansion until things are more …

Representatives from the store requested to withdraw the applications for the conditional use permit, site plan and rezoning for the project at the end of November.
O'Fallon residents who were looking forward to a Menards close to home will have to travel to St. Peters to shop this spring. Lake Saint Louis' proposal to cooperate with neighboring O'Fallon to bring a new Menards store to the area is still alive, even after O'Fallon declined the original idea of revenue sharing between the two cities. Both O'Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy and City Administrator Keith Riesberg were in attendance at the April 2 Lake Saint Louis board of aldermen meeting, where city officials discussed a new plan. City Administrator Paul Markworth suggested that the public works directors of both cities sit down and work out a cost for the maintenance of Lake Saint Louis roads that will service the Menards development. On Tuesday, Lake Saint Louis voters approved the annexations that bring the two roads, Old Highway N and Orf Road, into the city …

I'm curious, Greg, can you share any details about this small business of yours? Specifics? How exactly has Obama made the future "so uncertain". More info is needed, thanks.   more ›
