Blanchette Bridge Project Progressing Ahead of Scheudle

MoDOT hopes to open the bridge in Mid-August, three months ahead of the original schedule.

The Blanchette Bridge project is progressing ahead of schedule. On Friday morning Missouri Department of Transportation District Engineer Ed Hassinger and St. Charles Mayor Sally Faith said Friday morning that the project could be finished three months ahead of schedule.  When the westbound bridge was closed November 2, 2012, plans called for the shutdown to last for a maximum of one year. However Hassinger said MoDOT is pushing to open the bridge  annual Festival of the Little Hills in mid-August. There needs to be signs posted at the Eager Rd (left lane for Eager Rd EAST / middle lane Target Promenade & Eager Rd EAST / right lane Eager Rd WEST) at the exit heading South from 170. There are two lanes but everyone exits on the right lane onto Eager and cuts everyone off in the left lane to go EAST on Eager. The signs should be hung along the side of the 40 West overpass. Thank you!   more ›

1.) With the increased traffic on the Daniel Boone Bridge due to lane closures on the Blanchette, why did they decide to do blasting now? It doesn't make sense to have closures on one of the alternate routes. Drivers in the Lake St. Louis/Wentzville area do not have easy access to the Page extension. 2.) How much extra time should we plan in our commutes due to blasting?   more ›

UPDATE: Daily Slowdowns, Traffic Stops Begin Feb. 18 for Boone Bridge Work

The Missouri Department of Transportation needs to blast rock adjacent to the bridge as part of its renovation work. Expect delays. Here's details.

Updated with a new start date at 11:30 a.m. Friday. As if traversing the narrow Daniel Boone Bridge wasn't harrowing enough... Starting Feb. 18, the Missouri Department of Transportation will stop traffic across the bridge once a day in order to blast away nearby rocks as part of the department's reconstruction work on the span. The department had originally planned the shutdowns to start Monday, but wet conditions this week have slowed the work to prepare for the blasting originally scheduled to start Monday. Starting Feb. 18, the once-a-day bridge closures will take about 10 minutes and will occur at either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. every day, beginning Monday, for approximately one month. The department says traffic "will be slowed and …

Construction on Final Phase of Page Avenue Extension to Start this Summer

Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awards contract for Phase 3.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission on Wednesday awarded a contract to complete construction on the Highway 364 Page Avenue Extension project.  The $118.2 million project was awarded to Page Constructors LLC, a team comprising Fred Weber Inc., Millstone Bangert Inc., and Kolb Grading. It's expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2014. Phase 3 of the Page Extension will add nine miles of highway between Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters and the Route N and Interstate 64 interchange in Lake Saint Louis.  The road will be a four-lane freeway with an open, grassy median, similar to Route 141 or Highway 70 past Warrenton, said Project Director for Route 364 Phase 3 Mike Castro. The current Page Extension is 6 to 8 lanes wide.  "…

MoDOT Unveils 2013 St. Louis Area Road Construction Projects

The projects cost nearly $211 million and will include road and lane closures around the St. Louis area that begin next week.

The Missouri Department of Transportaion has a busy year planned for road construction in the St. Louis area. Tuesday, MoDOT officials unveiled detailed plans for five major projects around the St. Louis area in 2013 that total nearly $211 million.  "So it's a significant amount of money we're about to spend on roads around the state, around the region," explained Ed Hassinger, MoDOT District Engineer for the St. Louis region. Details for another project along Interstate 70 in St. Peters at Mid Rivers Mall Drive will come later this year. Hassinger said because of the mild winter, crews worked late into 2012 and 2013 construction projects will begin early this year. Following are the projects MoDOT have planned.
