More than 200 volunteers signed up to help with various projects in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11.
O'Fallon volunteers of all ages are giving back to the community on Saturday in honor of "9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance." United Way of Greater St. Louis helped organize projects throughout the St. Louis community for the 11th anniversary of 9/11 in honor of those who lost their lives and those who showed great courage during the terrorist attacks. More than 200 volunteers signed up through O'Fallon Volunteer Services to help with various projects at the O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall) 100 North Main St., O’Fallon. The City of O'Fallon hosted a ceremony, remembrance walk and opportunities for volunteers to serve the community in honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
The City of O'Fallon honored the heroes of 9/11 on the 10th anniversary of the attacks with their annual Patriot Day Ceremony at the 9/11 First Responders Memorial behind City Hall. Residents filled bleachers, clutching American flags and red and white carnations as they listened to guest speaker Dawn Robinson, who survived the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. After the ceremony, attendees lined up to place flowers on the 9/11 memorial. Some signed up for the Remembrance Walk, while others headed inside City Hall to donate blood or help sort and box items for U.S. troops overseas. O'Fallon began collecting supplies for U.S. troops on Tuesday in honor of 9/11 and on Sunday will host a ceremony, remembrance walk and opportunities for volunteers to serve the community.
Volunteers around the St. Louis area will come together to honor first responders who risked their lives and those who perished on 9/11, as Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of the attacks. The United Way of Greater St. Louis encourages serving your community in memory of those lost on 9/11, through a National Day of Service and Remembrance. The United Way designated the City of O’Fallon’s ceremony and projects planned for Sunday as signature events for the region.
