Two local Boy Scouts recently helped make O'Fallon's Veterans Memorial Walk a more comfortable place for visitors Joshua Anderson and Logan Funderburk, of Scout Troop 858 Boone Trails Chapter, constructed benches for the walk as part of their Eagle Scout Service Project. Mayor Bill Hennessy presented the scouts with a proclamation honoring them for their "thoughtfulness for others" in planning and building the benches. "It will enhance the Veterans Memorial Walk by providing comfort to visitors for many years," Hennessy said at the City Council meeting on Dec. 13. Maryland native Michael Walsh has visited the 50 states and captured photos of each state's Vietnam Veteran memorials.
An idea that started more than 20 years ago has come to life through a three-year journey for a Vietnam War veteran. In the past three years, Michael F. Walsh, who served for a year in the Vietnam War in the army, has traveled to all 50 states, sometimes more than once, to capture images of Vietnam Veteran memorials. On Tuesday afternoon, the Maryland native stopped in Florissant to photograph the Vietnam War memorial in Koch Park along his route through Missouri and Illinois. Event begins at 11 a.m. at O'Fallon Veterans Memorial Walk on Friday.
The City of O'Fallon will honor veterans with a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Belleau Creek Rd. in O'Fallon. The public is invited to attend the annual event, that this year will feature two celebrations. The first part of the ceremony will honor veterans. Sorry Jim, I didn't get your message about this until today, Saturday! I would have been honored to see your ceremonies. I just love the sites in O'Fallon and while there I rephotographed the Dames Monument and the Veteran's Walk.
