Neighbors are welcome to help make treats for United States military men and women serving overseas.
Editor's note: Mary is no longer seeking help with baking at this time. O'Fallon Patch will update with more information about future opportunities as they become available. An O'Fallon woman is sending homemade treats to military men and women overseas, but she needs a little help. Mary Powers is baking cookies and plans to send them to the troops each month. She is looking for other O'Fallon residents who are interested in helping with the baking.

Four neighbors provided first aid when an O'Fallon teen severely cut his arm on a window this past spring.
A group of O'Fallon residents were recently recognized for quick thinking and brave actions that lead to saving a local teen's life earlier this year. On Thursday, Sept. 27 O'Fallon Police Chief Roy Joachimstaler presented Citizen Service Awards to: "Normally I'm honored to present awards to police officers, but tonight, I'm just as honored, to give out some awards to our citizens," Joachimstaler said. Back in April, 14-year-old Scott, of O'Fallon boy, was injured when he attempted to get inside of his own home through a front window. Joachimstaler said the victim's father, Paul, explained his son came home from school and when no one was home. More than 200 volunteers signed up to help with various projects in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11.
O'Fallon volunteers of all ages are giving back to the community on Saturday in honor of "9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance." United Way of Greater St. Louis helped organize projects throughout the St. Louis community for the 11th anniversary of 9/11 in honor of those who lost their lives and those who showed great courage during the terrorist attacks. More than 200 volunteers signed up through O'Fallon Volunteer Services to help with various projects at the O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall) 100 North Main St., O’Fallon. O’Fallon’s Heritage and Freedom Fest is held at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex July 2-4.
O'Fallon's Volunteer Services is looking for people interested in helping out with the city's annual Heritage and Freedom Fest. There are still a few positions available. Shifts are approximately two to three hours in long. Shirts, hats/visors, a heat survival kit, meals/snacks and water are provided. O’Fallon’s Heritage and Freedom Fest is held at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex, 900 T.R. Work as a Docent at the Heald House in O'Fallon Volunteer docents would open and close the house for touris, present a prepared script to visitors, answer questions, and verify cash balance with the greeter at the end of the day. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will greet clients, donors and visitors, sort through incoming donations and stock, prepare rejected donations to be passed on.
