The 2012 football season is in the books for most the Gateway Athletic Conference teams. Yes, it's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. Except this week has a twist. Instead of looking at the last week, we're looking at the entire season.  Tell us in the poll below: Who was the top GAC football player in 2012? Shane Barrett—Fort Zumwalt East: The Lions sophomore quarterback had a solid first season leading the East offense. As a passer, Barrett was 80-for-169 for 1,441 yards and 17 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Running the ball, Barrett was tied for the GAC Central in touchdowns with 13. He actually led the conference with 82 points scored thanks to two successful two-point conversions. …

Dillon Bowman—Fort Zumwalt South: Fort Zumwalt South's Dillon Bowman may not have had the big numbers Thursday night against Zumwalt North, but he came through when it mattered. Bowman picked a 25-yard touchdown run in overtime and then successfully made the two-point conversion to give the Bulldogs a big Week 10 playoff win over the rival Panthers. The touchdown was Bowman's second big play of the game. Earlier in the contest, he completed his only pass of the day to Casey Owens for a 65-yard …

It's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll.  This week we turn our attention to the football field. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 9? Armand Keely—Orchard Farm: Orchard Farm pulled out a big win in the final moments on Friday night. The Eagles scored 14 fourth-quarter points to beat Clopton 27-26. The first score that started the comeback was a two-yard run by Armand Kelly. The TD was his second in the game. In total, Kelly carried the ball 21 times for 128 yards to power the Orchard Farm offense.  Jordan Norwine—Christian High School: The O'Fallon Christian Eagles closed out the regular season with a huge 38-12 win against Lift for Life. The …

Athlete of the Week: Zumwalt East's Barrett Wins Top Honors

Fort Zumwalt East quarterback Shane Barrett wins the fan's choice for top football player from Week 5.

Shane Barret's arm and leg led Zumwalt East to a big Week 5 win. Passing and running, Barret helped push the Lions past rival Zumwalt North. His performance not only helped the Lions win the game, it helped him winthe Patch St. Charles County Athlete of the Week award.  Here's how the voting broke down: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 5?   The Lions' sophomore signal caller led East to a 38-26 win against rival Zumwalt North. The win pushed the Lions to 4-1 on the season. Against North, Barrett was a difference maker. He carried the ball 27 times for 110 yards (4.1 yards a carry) and two touchdowns. It's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll.  This week we turn our attention to the football field. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 5? Brody Allen—Francis Howell Central: The Howell Central Spartans finally broke through and picked up a win in Week 5 and a large reason was the play of quarterback Brody Allen. In the Spartans 34-0 blanking of Howell North, Allen had his hands in two touchdowns—one with his arm and one with his legs. He was just 6-for-14 throwing the ball, but he did complete at 6-yard TD pass. He really showed off on the ground. With 16 carries, Allen racked up 123 yards (7.7 yards a carry). He lone touchdown came on a 26-yard …

Athlete of the Week: St. Dominic's Emily Weaver Crowned Winner

The St. Dominic soccer player topped the latest St. Charles County Athlete of the Week poll.

Emily Monroe is the latest St. Charles County Athlete of the Week.  Weaver was part of a potent St. Dominic attack that powered its way into the Final Four of the State tournament. Her offensive exploits didn't go unnoticed. Weaver eked out a one-vote victory to capture the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week crown.  Here's  how the voting went down : Who was the St. Charles County player of the week for the week beginning on May 21? Emily Monroe and the St. Dominic girls soccer team are on quite a run. The Crusaders are in the Final Four of the Class 2 State tournament after back-to-back wins last week. Both wins for St. Dominic came in impressive fashion—on May 22, the Crusaders won 6-0 and on May 26, the girls won 8-1. The offense …

Athlete of the Week: Gerrion Grim Wins Top Prize

Fort Zumwalt South hurler Gerrion Grim named the Patch Athlete of the Week.

Fort Zumwalt South pitcher Gerrion Grim had a good game on the mound and, as a result is the Patch Athlete of the week. While Grim's season ended earlier this week with a loss in sectionals, Grim and the Bulldogs will always have the District tournament. Grim was spectacular and his fans noticed. He won a tight Athlete of the Week contest by just one vote. Here's how the voting went down: Who was the St. Charles County player of the week beginning on May 14?? A big reason why the Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs are Class 4, District 8 champions is the pitching arm of Gerrion Grim. As the season winds down, the games get bigger. With the games getting bigger, some players crack under the pressure. Others? Well they rise to the occasion. With District action on the soccer and baseball fields across Missouri, these four athletes certainly didn't back down. Here are the nominees for Athlete of the Week for the week of May 14. Haley Nichols Takes Home Athlete of the Week Title

Fort Zumwalt West soccer players win the fan's choice for St. Charles County Athlete of the Week.

Fans of offense has quite the choice to make in the Athlete of the Week. From the soccer pitch came four girls who filled the back of the of the net often for their teams. Like the girls, voters came out as well and put up some big numbers. At the end of voting, it was a two-player race with Haley Nichols from Fort Zumwalt West picking up the honors. Nichols  826 (61 percent) Here are the results:  Total votes: 1,338 The Fort Zumwalt West girls soccer team played three games last week and won all three. In each game, Haley Nichols put one in the back of the net for the Jaguars. Nichols scored one against Zumwalt North on April 5, two against Belleville West on April 6 and added a goal on April 7 against Peoria Notre Dame.  *** Patch wants …
