O'Fallon Plans Grand Opening For New Westhoff Skate Park in November
The park is located in Westhoff Park at the entrance near T.R. Hughes Boulevard and Cool Springs Industrial Drive.
Local skaters and bikers will have a new place to ride in O'Fallon next week. A skate park under construction in Westhoff Park at the entrance near T.R. Hughes Boulevard and Cool Springs Industrial Drive will open to the public next Saturday. The Westhoff Plaza park is made of concrete and measure around 10,600 square feet in size, with street and bowl skateboarding features. The City of O’Fallon’s grand opening for the park is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will feature: O'Fallon City Council approved the $399,176.46 construction contract with Hardcore Shotcrete Skateparks at the July 12 meeting and construction began in August. Sign Up For RSC Fiesta Run/Walk and Fitness Festival
The entry fee through May 4 is $20 for ages 14 and younger and $25 for ages 15 and older.
The O'Fallon Parks and Recreation Department is hosting some family Cinco de Mayo fun this weekend with the RSC Fiesta 5K Run/Walk. Ty Joyce, recreation fitness specialist, said proceeds from the event held on Saturday, May 5 at the Renaud Spirit Center will benefit O'Fallon parks. "We have had our 5K annually for about the last five years, but this is the first year for the Cinco de mayo 5K!" Joyce said. This year, participants are also encouraged to enter a Cinco de Mayo costume contest. Joyce said participants are welcome to wear sombreros, ponchos or any other gear that represents the spirit of Cinco de Mayo. Prizes will be awarded for for the top three costumes. City to Purchase Splash Pad For Brendan’s Playground
O’Fallon City Council approved a resolution to allocate $66,255.84 for the materials and installation of a splash pad on the playground at Thursday night’s meeting.
Kids of all abilities will be able to play and stay cool in the summer heat at Brendan’s Playground in O’Fallon this summer. The water feature was part of the original playground design and funding was approved in 2011, but when plans were not finalized for construction the money rolled back into parks and recreation fund. O'Fallon Parks and Recreation Seeks Community Help to Obtain Grant
Parks and Recreation Department plans to use the grant money for the city's youth sports programs.
Now through May 31, parents, residents and coaches can help the City of O’Fallon earn a $2,500 grant to enhance the city’s youth sports program. Liberty Mutual sponsors The Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports Community Grant Program and distributes 20 grants annually. The grant money is used in communities to purchase equipment for youth sports programs. The Liberty Mutual grant program teaches and fosters a cooperative spirit between coaches, parents and players. It guides parents and coaches in ways to help their children garner benefits from community youth sports. O'Fallon Offers Alternative Spring Break Activities
Residents are invited to get in touch with nature and help prepare their local parks for spring.
O'Fallon residents of all ages are invited to grab their gardening gloves and help prepare city parks for spring over the next two weeks. For the second year in a row, Volunteer Services is hosting their Alternative Spring Break. Volunteer Services Coordinator Alexis Jaegers said nearly 20 volunteers are signed up to help plant Liriope to assist with erosion in Dames Park from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday March 16. O’Fallon Unveils All-Inclusive Playground Design, Launches Fundraising Effort
Residents can participate in several fundraising opportunities to help build the nature themed playground where children with and without disabilities can play and interact with each other.
The City of O’Fallon is taking steps to make a playground for children of all abilities a reality. Parks and Recreation launched their fundraising efforts and unveiled design plans for the all-inclusive playground at an event at the Renaud Center last Wednesday night. The nature themed playground is slated to be built in Westhoff Park this summer. O’Fallon Parks and Recreation is hosting a public meeting on Thursday to present preliminary design plans for the skate park to be built at Westhoff Park. Hardcore Shotcrete Skateparks, Inc. will present conceptual designs for the park, based off of feedback from local skaters and residents from a January meeting. Residents are once again invited to view the skate park designs and share their thoughts at Thursday's meeting at 6 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the O'Fallon Municpal Centre.
