The company received approval to convert some of its current units at five of its facilities in O'Fallon and the St. Louis area from a state health commission earlier this week.
The O'Fallon location of Delmar Gardens is adding assited-living beds to its current senior housing facilities following a decision by a state health committee to approval the $33 million project. The Missouri Health Facilities Review Committee granted the request at a Jan. 7 meeting. Delmar Gardens had submitted what are called "certificates of need" to add the beds to five of its St. Louis facilities, including the Chesterfield Villas retirement community. The O'Fallon facility is located aat 7068 South Outer Road 364. Renovations will cost approximately $9.6 million and will add 65 assisted living beds. The application period for O'Fallon's utility tax rebate program for seniors and disabled residents is open until Tuesday, May 31. O'Fallon offers rebates on taxes paid on gas, electricity and home phone and cell phone service between in 2011. The program is open to O’Fallon residents who meet income guidelines, are age 65 or older, and residents who have been determined by the Social Security Administration to be completely disabled. Residents may file from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Adults age 50 and older will have the opportunity to participate in more than 30 programs focusing on wellness, health and continuing education this fall in O’Fallon.
From hands-on, magic trick workshops to chair yoga, adults 50 and older will have a variety of activities to sign up for this fall in O’Fallon. The City of O’Fallon has partnered with St. Louis OASIS to help adults over the age of 50 find ways to get out of the house and meet new people, continue living healthy lifestyles and be active members of the community. The OASIS Institute is a national education organization dedicated to helping older adults improve their quality of life. The O'Fallon Active Older Adult's Club club offers active seniors an opportunity to socialize on a monthly basis. Speakers on a variety of topics will inform or entertain.
The O’Fallon Active Older Adults (OAOA) club hopes to get seniors laughing in June. The next meeting is June 15, with registration closing Wednesday. Lunch will be provided by Garden Villas of O’Fallon. The guest speaker and demonstrator is Jodi Hart. Hart is a certified laughter yoga leader. Hart’s website states laughter yoga is great for relieving the stress of everyday life. On her site, she said Hasya Yoga (laughter yoga) makes you feel good and is an easy way to exercise. Those attending the laughter yoga session can watch or participate in the demonstration. Mats will be provided. The club is a fledgling. Its activities began in March. Fort Zumwalt North seniors received their diplomas at a ceremony at the St. Charles Family Arena on Saturday.
The 49th graduating class from Fort Zumwalt North was treated to a humor laced epilogue by Principal Joe Sutton in an early evening graduating ceremony at the St. Charles Family Arena on Saturday. In reference to not being the milestone 50th class, Sutton held up his forefinger and thumb, and then quoted a famous statesman, Don Adams as Secret agent Maxwell Smart, when he told the class “you missed it by that much." Sutton went on to expand the idea that while the graduates may have been told by some people to “make the most of their days in high school because they may be the best of your life," he added that they left off two words – “so far." On Saturday, 42 proud graduates accepted their diplomas in the presence of family and friends at Christian High School.
Living Word Christian High School graduates received their diplomas in a ceremony held on Saturday on the school's campus. According to school officials, the class of 2011 completed 8,077 hours of community service and was offered scholarships in excess of $3.6 million. Speakers during the ceremony included the class salutatorian, Shayna B. Mullner who has attended Christian High School since the first grade and valedictorian Britni N. Cannedy.
