After a recent discussion between concerned residents and the O’Fallon Parks and Recreation staff about the new Westhoff Skate Park, some community members kept talking. While some people expressed concerns about the noise and trash the new park could bring to the neighborhood, many believe that it’s more of a positive for the community than the negative. Local skaters and bikers will have a new place to ride in O'Fallon next week. A skate park under construction in Westhoff Park at the entrance near T.R. Hughes Boulevard and Cool Springs Industrial Drive will open to the public next Saturday. The Westhoff Plaza park is made of concrete and measure around 10,600 square feet in size, with street and bowl skateboarding features. The City of O’Fallon’s grand opening for the park is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. O’Fallon Parks and Recreation is hosting a public meeting on Thursday to present preliminary design plans for the skate park to be built at Westhoff Park. Hardcore Shotcrete Skateparks, Inc. will present conceptual designs for the park, based off of feedback from local skaters and residents from a January meeting. Residents are once again invited to view the skate park designs and share their thoughts at Thursday's meeting at 6 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the O'Fallon Municpal Centre. A meeting is scheduled for Thursday night for residents to come share their thoughts and ideas on the proposed project.
The City of O'Fallon Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a meeting Thursday night at 6 p.m. to discuss plans to build a skate park at Westhoff Park. The Parks Department invites O'Fallon residents to join them in the multi-purpose room in City Hall to share their thoughts and ideas about the proposed project. The skate park will be built north of the new entrance being constructed off TR Hughes Blvd. City officials say it will be an approximately 8,000 sq. ft. concrete structure with a combination of street and bowl skate opportunities. The project is included in the city's five-year CIP as a project for 2012 at an estimated cost of $300,000. Thursday's meeting is to brainstorm what elements should be included in the project.

I think the skate park is great, it is especially pleasing to see all the kids down there, getting exercise, enjoying themselves and staying out of trouble, better there then walking down the streets trying to think of something to do, like vandalizing mailboxes, breaking off tree limbs and causing trouble.Congratulations to Ofallon for coming up with the idea of a free skate park areal   more ›
