O'Fallon Recognizes St. Dominic Soccer Teams For Making State History

The St. Dominic girls team record for the season was 28-2 and the boys was 23-5.

For the first time in Missouri history, one local school brought home a state championship win for both its boys and girls varsity teams.  The St. Dominic High School soccer teams were recognized for their accomplishments, alongside Coach Greg Keller at the Jan. 10 O'Fallon City Council meeting.  The St. Dominic girls team record for the season was 28-2 and the boys was 23-5. Crusader Coach Greg Koeller was also named Coach of the Year in High School Soccer.  "We feel very blessed that in our school community, we have great families that provide us with such great student athletes," Koeller said as the audience applauded and the teams received the proclamation. Zumwalt North Student Signs With University of Missouri-Kansas City

Senior Amanda Wiechens will play soccer at the university next fall.

Sports Report: Winter Sports Are Coming Up Fast

With the fall season nearly over, it's time to take a look at the winter sports season.

The fall sports season is just about over in the state of Missouri. Most fall teams in St. Charles County are already done playing, which means most schools are already thinking about the winter sports season. Despite recent higher temperature, winter sports are just around the corner. Practices are fully underway and Missouri allows the first wreslting matches and basketball games to being Nov. 21.  For th next few weeks, teams will around the County will begin play. Here are the season-opening dates for each team.

Sports Report: Football Going Strong, Other Sports Finishing Up

Fall sports are nearly complete as the calendar turns to November.

Welcome to another exciting week ahead in high school sports. November is playoff time, and that means every game matters. Let's take a look at the big ones.  The second week of the high school football playoff season kicks off on Monday night. If local teams in Classes 4 and 5 win on Monday, they will again play on Saturday making it three playoff games in 11 days. This is the real season.  After cruising to a 41-0 win against Pattonville in the playoff opener on Friday, the Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars should facer a tougher foe this Friday. The Francis Howell Vikings are coming off a 31-0 win against Hickman and have just three losses on the season.  Friday's winner will play next Friday against Blue Springs South or Rockhurst.  Holt made …

Sports Report: Football and Soccer Ready for the Postseason

The week of Oct. 31 is jam packed with must-see games all around St. Charles County.

This week should be an interesting one for St. Charles County high schools. Most boys soccer playoffs start Monday, football playoffs start Wednesday and, to top it all off, practice can offically begin for wrestling and basketball on Monday.  It's going to be a busy week full of big games. Let's take a look what's on tap, starting with the soccer pitch. The Class 3, District 5 Tournament at Fort Zumwalt South High School will pit five local teams against each other. Fort Zumwalt South is the top seed for the tourney and has a first round bye. The Bulldogs will face the winner of the tourney opener—either Francis Howell Northor Fort Zumwalt North. The two Norths will battle at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31.  The other teams in the tournament …

Late Goal Gives Crusaders Win Against Fort Zumwalt East

Overtime goal by St. Dominic drops Lions.

Soccer forwards who perform in clutch situations are worth their weight in gold.  And St. Dominic Crusader forward Conor Baker’s goal early in the second overtime period gave his team a 2-1 win over the Fort Zumwalt East Lions last night in the first round of the St. Dominic-FastLane Super Cup Boys Varsity Soccer at St. Dominic High School. Baker said he was disappointed in a shot he missed earlier in the game.  “I had to redeem myself,” he said.  Baker scored at the 9:39 mark in the second overtime. Overtime play lasts 10-minutes unless a goal is scored to bring the contest to the end. Midfielder Mark Steiniger attempted a cross which was knocked down by Lion goalkeeper CJ Vaccaro.
