Former Foster Parent Indicted on Child Abuse Charges

Police said that Terri Cronin broke a six-week-old baby's arm, and five weeks later fractured the child's skull, causing a brain injury.

A former St. Charles County foster parent was indicted by a St. Charles County grand jury Friday on two counts of child abuse. Terri Cronin, 48, was indicted on two counts of child abuse. She alternatively has been indicted on two counts of second-degree assault. Cronin's address now is listed as being in Oklahoma. St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department detectives said Cronin fractured a six-week-old baby’s arm while caring for the child as a foster parent in the 3600 block of Meadowsglen Court in the Harvester area. Cronin told police she slipped while carrying the baby down some stairs. Man On Probation Sold Marijuana, Ecstasy to Undercover Officer

Drug Task Force detectives said the man, who is under investigation for other drug offenses, was on probation for statutory rape.

An O’Fallon man who was on probation sold marijuana and ecstasy to an undercover officer three times in three months, according to the St. Charles County Drug Task Force. Charles Jamison, 31, of the 7100 block of Fireside Court in O'Fallon, was charged Oct. 18 with three counts of distributing controlled substances. Drug Task Force detectives said Jamison sold 6.5 grams of marijuana to an undercover officer for $120 June 5. He also sold the officer ecstasy on July 24 and 6.1 grams of marijuana for $120 Aug. 21, detectives said. All the transactions took place in the 2100 block of Martin Drive in O’Fallon, according to court documents. Jamison told police he did not recall selling any type of illegal drugs to anyone in the past six months. …

O'Fallon Man Steals Friend's Pickup, Rams Truck, Deputy Says

The man chased down a pickup he was pursuing on Highway 79 and slammed into the back of it twice, according to a St. Charles County Sheriff's report.

An O’Fallon man took his friend’s 1994 Chevrolet Silverado and rammed it twice into the pickup of a man whom he was chasing. Shane M. Walla, 20, of the 800 block of Colleen Drive in O’Fallon, was charged Friday with stealing a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree property damage and third-degree assault. A St. Charles County Sheriff’s deputy said that Walla’s friend blocked the roadway on Dalbow Road near Highway 79 with his Silverado so that the driver of a Ford F-150 could not pass. Three men got out of the truck confronted the driver, who refused to get out of his pickup to fight, according to the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department report. St. Charles County Deputies Form 'Save our Sheriff Department Campaign'

In November, voters will decide on a bill that would change the county Sheriff's Department to a Police Department with an appointed police chief, but some deputies are speaking out against the measure.

Some St. Charles County Sheriff's deputies are unhappy with a November ballot measure that could change the way the sheriff is selected, according to KMOV. As Patch previously reported, the St. Charles County Council voted in August to  place a measure on the ballot that could establish a county police department responsible for law enforcement duties in the county.  Under the proposal, the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department would remain in charge of court services, prisoner transport and process serving. The biggest change would be an appointed police chief, rather than the current election process for sheriff. O'Fallon Teen Assaulted Entire Family, Deputy Says

The teen tackled his father and crashed through a wooden door, according to a court document.

A 17-year-old assaulted his entire immediate family Aug. 28, according to St. Charles County Sheriff's deputy. Patrick Craven, 17, of Fox Drive in unincorporated St. Charles County east of O'Fallon, was charged Aug. 29 with three counts of third-degree domestic assault. A St. Charles County Sheriff’s deputy said Craven was the primary physical aggressor in the assault. According to the deputy’s report, Craven tackled his father and the two crashed through a wooden door. Craven struck his father in the face several times. Craven also shoved his mother and punched his brother in the forehead. The deputy said marks on the father and brother and damage to the house was consistent with their statements. Man Charged With Hitting Deputy During Foot Chase

The accused was on probation for tampering with with a car at the time.

A man faces criminal charges after he struck a law enforcement officer during a foot chase in O’Fallon Aug. 24. Brandon D. Brown Jr, 20, of the first block of Newberry Drive in St. Charles County south of St. Peters, was charged Aug. 28 with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. A St. Charles County Sheriff's deputy said in a report that he was chasing Brown on foot near 955 Bryan Road in O’Fallon because Brown had a warrant for his arrest. During the chase, Brown turned and struck the deputy in the chest. The blow caused the deputy to lose his balance, fall and strike his knee on the asphalt, and he nearly was struck by oncoming traffic, the deputy reported. O'Fallon Man, 45, Has Harassed Teen Girl For Nearly a Month, Police Say

A St. Charles County Sheriff's deputy said Edward Tessmer, of O’Fallon, has been calling the teen girl repeatedly, cursing and threatening her over a civil dispute.

A man faces criminal charges after police said he’s harassed a St. Peters teen since Aug. 5. A St. Charles County Sheriff's deputy said in a report that Edward Tessmer, 45, of the 400 block of Mar-Ton Estates Drive in O’Fallon has been calling the girl repeatedly, cursing and threatening her over a civil dispute. Tessmer also went to the woman’s home on Harvest Meadow Court in St. Peters Monday and tried to take property that belongs to the teen, an officer said. He falsely stating he had a mechanic’s lien on the property and had a police officer with him, according to court documents. Tessmer was charged Wednesday with harassing a person age 17 or under. The girl recorded several verbally abusive phone messages from Tessmer, police said. …

Should County Sheriff's Department Change to a Police Department?

St. Charles County approved a bill to ask voters whether the county Sheriff's Department should switch to a Police Department with an appointed police chief.

St. Charles County could have both an elected sheriff and an appointed chief of police in the future.  The St. Charles County Council voted Monday to put the issue on the November ballot and let voters decide whether to establish a county police department which would be responsible for law enforcement duties in the county.  Under the proposal, the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department would remain in charge of court services, prisoner transport, process serving.  Council members John White, Terry Hollander, Joe Cronin and Nancy voted in favor of putting the matter before the voters. O'Fallon Woman Charged With Helping to Produce Meth

A St. Charles County deputy said he spotted empty pseudoephedrine packets in her car during a traffic stop.

An O’Fallon woman was charged Thursday with possessing pseudoephedrine with intent to make methamphetamine. A St. Charles County Sheriff's deputy stopped Nicole Barton, 32, of the 400 block of Eastbrook in O’Fallon, for a traffic violation Wednesday on Feise Road near Winterset Hollow Court. The deputy saw two pseudoephedrine blister packages in the car, according to a report. A check of Barton’s pseudoephedrine purchase history showed 34 purchases and two attempts that were blocked because she exceeded the legal limit. Bond was set at $35,000, cash only. Three Indicted on Seven Burglaries, Dozens of Thefts

Three St. Charles County men face charges on burglaries throughout St. Charles County, including one in O'Fallon.

Three St. Charles County men each were indicted by a grand jury Friday on seven first-degree burglary charges and multiple stealing charges. The defendants are: Larbi and Ballinger were indicted by the St. Charles County grand jury on seven first-degree burglary charges; Roberts was indicted on five first-degree burglary charges. Larbi faces 27 stealing charges and Ballinger has 21 stealing charges. Roberts was indicted on 15 stealing, two receiving stolen property and one second-degree property damage charges in addition to two charges of selling marijuana to an undercover officer.
