O'Fallon Man Takes Neighbor's Car, Objects to Theft Charge
The man told deputies he committed no crime because he returned the car, despite being told he couldn't take it.
A man stole his neighbor’s car Oct. 29 and drove it to Illinois after the neighbor told him he couldn’t borrow it, police said. A St. Charles County deputy reported that Timothy J. Conway, 24, of Barberry Lane near O’Fallon, asked to borrow his neighbor’s 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. The neighbor told police she refused because she’d known Conway only for two weeks and because he was drunk. She also told him the plates were expired and the tires were bad. At about midnight, the woman noticed the car was gone. Conway told police he took the vehicle, but didn’t feel he committed a crime because he returned it, according to a St. Charles County Sheriff's Department report.
