City Takes Time For Random Acts of Kindness

O'Fallon employees spent Valentine's Day delivering cards and hand-crafted flowers to local seniors.

City of O'Fallon employees filled their arms with  brightly colored tissue paper flowers and headed out to local senior homes to share the Valentine's Day love on Monday.  Each year on Random Acts of Kindness Day, Feb. 14, city employees visit local senior centers and nursing homes, to distribute origami flowers, cards and candy. Local volunteers crafted the cards and flowers at the annual Martin Luther King Day of Service on Jan. 17.  Volunteer Services Director Kathy Halstead started Random Acts of Kindness  10 years ago. She said she chose Valentine’s Day for the project, because it seems to be a day that seniors are often forgotten.

O'Fallon Dads Treat Daughters to Night of Dining, Dancing

The annual Daddy Daughter Sweetheart dance drew 70 couples to Civic Hall.

Dads dug out their best suits and ties, while their daughters donned sparkly party dresses and tiaras for O'Fallon's annual Daddy Daughter Sweetheart Dance held at Civic Hall on Saturday, Feb. 5.  For more than 10 years, O'Fallon Parks and Recreation has hosted the event, encouraging dads, grandpas or uncles to treat the young ladies in their lives to a night of dressing up, dancing and dinner.  "The girls come out and have good time. I think they love pulling dad out on the dance floor," Recreation Specialist Alyssa Groeteke said.
